Default Why are trucks so high in Canada?

As I've spent 10 years outside the U.S. (Germany, Italy, Korea, Saudi Arabia) in jobs, I understand the difference in currency values. However, that only explains a small part of it. I know from these forums that cars/trucks and all parts are much more expensive in Canada. To our Canadian friends, is it all due to taxes?

Dude, almost everything is more expensive in Canada. Have you seen the massive price difference on alcohol? It's not ALL because of taxes but that does play a big part.

I lived in Canada for 10 years and noticed this first hand. I just furnished my house here in Florida. I spent about $6000 furnishing a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. In Canada, that would have cost me at least $10000.

LOL.. I noticed trying to get aftermarket parts in Canada that there is a big difference in price. I assume it's supply and demand and throw in the delivery cost because everything is shipped from the states. There is only 1/10th the population in Canada compared to the States, so we don't have the buying power, hense availability. Americans have so many options for aftermarket parts which would drive the prices down..

I get the sense that dealers know people expect parts to cost more in Canada and jack their prices even more. I just ordered a part for my jeep from Texas - with duty & shipping to Ontario it was still only half of what a dealer up here was asking.

It is not just vehicles, believe me.

Example, up here, the Wendy's value menu is $1.89 per item, in the US, I believe it is $0.99.

How do you justify twice the price for the same thing? I don't know, it is what it is.
