michilen tire question?
lookin to buy a set of michelin ltx at-2 tires for my truck. was wondering if anyone had anyy experience with these tires. tires are a little pricey, but alot of reviews say they handle great and are getting 70 to 80,000 miles out of a set.
I had a set of those on my '07 Tundra. They were e-rated and the ride was no worse than the Goodyears that came on the truck. They had 60,000 miles on them when I traded the Tundra for my current Dodge, and looked like they had another 20-30,000 miles left. My Dodge has 29,000 miles on it and when I need tires, I am seriously considering putting Michelin LTX AT2 load range e on it. I travel on gravel roads alot and need all the flat protection I can get.
One note, the one thing I noticed with the Michelin's that I was wary of was the sidewalls don't seem to be as strong/protected as other tires and if you off-road in rocky area's they could be susceptible to sidewall cuts. When I went off-roading in rocky areas there were alot of scuffs on the sidewall from rocks and sagebrush roots on this brand, though I never did get a flat.
Hope this helps.

My new 04 QC came with Michelin LTX tires. At about 4000 miles I barely clipped a curb in my work parking lot. No biggie, I have clipped a few curbs before but this time the tire went immediately flat. Upon investigation I found the sidewall had ripped open from this minor incident. After that I did not trust them and replaced them with some real truck tires. The folks at Big O tires told me the LTX tires were basically a car tire? It appears that they do have really good tread life but I would not trust them off road at all, they have poorly protected sidewalls. Just my own experience, others will vary.
We had Michelin LTX on our 1999 Dodge 2500 - it came with them from the factory. When we traded it in they had 37000 miles on them and were getting fairly worn out, but still did well everywhere except in the rain. My experience with years of both Michelin and Goodyear tires is that the Michelins wear slightly better and that the Goodyears get as hard as a rock after about 25000 miles. Those Michelins were the best tires I have ever had in the snow - usually didn't have to use 4WD until the snow got over about a foot deep (truck had a LSD also).
