Default Back Up Camera

I did do a search and got some info, but I had some questions that Iam not sure if I answered with the search. We have the touch screen, but not the nav, so we have a REN system? The factory back up camera will work with this system even though we have the back up sensor? We do not have the center console, so if I decided to install this myself it is doable with a little mechanic knowledge? What do these kits usually run for price from the dealer? I saw some on Ebay that were between $250.00 and $300.00, or is there a better source? If I should decide not to install it what is a estimate of what the dealer would charge? Iam not sure if I will do this, I just spent $600.00 on the chrome towing mirrors! Should have added these 2 items when I bought the truck! 2009 Ram 1500 Laramie.

Thanks for your time.

I am working thru the same items right now. I upgraded my radio from the standard RES radio to the RBZ radio (REN upgrade). The dealership quoted me $224.25 for the camera at the parts department & $229.50 for install and Starscan activation (total $453.75). The instruction on the install can be found online. The part that worries me the most while reading them is removing the fuse box in the engine bay, running wires to it so you can add a fuse for the camera inside the fuse box. That fuse box has some big fuses in it (100amp). The other part that sucks is running the power wires thru the floor of the bed of the truck. Other than those 2 things, the install seems pretty simple.

Does anyone know if you can buy the tool to activate the camera, or can only the dealership activate it? I just installed my first Amp ever with no problems, so I think I am going to try and install the camera. I agree that running the wire to the fuse box seems a little hard, but it shouldn't be that bad. It is definitely worth trying to install yourself instead of paying around $250 for the dealership to do it.
