I am going to have to get new headlights after a failed attempt at drilling into mine to allow the HID wires to have a hole to come out of. Right now the outer shell of my headlight has duct tape on it just to keep as much water as I can out of them while I fing new headlights. I have to say I was very disappointed with the HID Extra kit as it had very poor directions and it left me with no choice but to drill the headlight housing. If I had to do it again I would do something different. Anyway I now need new headlights and since the price of used ones range from $75 - $125 and I can get a set of projector headlight's for $250-$350 I figured I would look into changing over to projector's. So here are my question's, What would you do? If you have projector's how do you like them? Where did you get them? How much did they cost? Did they come with HID's already installed? I am looking to go with Chrome projector's not the black, I do not care for the black look. I have attached a picture of a set that I found on ebay. That bring's up another question, is the projector's on ebay worth it or are they junk? Is there a good website out there where I can get a good pair that you have experience with? Thanks for all of your help with this and I appreciate all you opinion's.

P.S. I know I can search a ton of thread's on hear but I am looking for opinion's and not tech stuff. I would like first had knowledge and I greatly appreciate everyone that responds and helps me out. Thanks again.

 

1st..Haven't heard of any need to drill into the housing to install a P-n-P HID kit, but that said, and the fact you are looking into projectors (a much better option IMO) Get in touch with Jeremy http://retroshop.mcfail.net/
A much MUCH better option then ebay crap. And you'd still need to buy an HID kit to retro them.

I didn't see any other way to do it. Yes everything is plug in play but connections are all inside the headlight assembly and the only thing coming out is the OEM plug. The Ballast would not fit in the hole so drilling was the only way. As for the projector's I will check into the website you suggested. Thanks

 

That's a bummer that you ruined your headlights. I did a tutorial on installing the HID Extra bulbs in my truck. Too Little too late I guess.

Wow! I feel like an idiot. Usually I search this forum before I install anything but this was one of those projects that I just decided to do last minute. They had been in my garage for about two months and it was real nice this weekend, so in my bordom I decided to start taking the truck apart and it just spiraled out of control. Anyway Thanks for the link. I think I am just going to get new factory lights and do it the right way this time. Thanks again.

lol...I'm still confused about the drilling? Were you trying to put the ballast inside the headlight assembly?

 

I wasn't trying to put the ballast inside the housing, The HID kits plug into the existing wires, what they do not tell you is that you will have to drill somewhere on your headlight housing to allow the new wires to stick out so they can plug into the ballast, The other thing they do not tell you is that if you have the Quads you have to get a capacitor. You shouldn't have to find out form the good guy's on this forum that you need to ask them for it. It is a free item but they do not ship it to you unless you ask for it. Kind of stupid in my book.

Either way the HID's are out I had to buy a new passenger's side Headlight and I am going back to stock configuration. Will not do HID's agian unless they come with the light and are truly a plug and play.

 

I agree they should have shipped the caps for the lights. But I'm still not following you on the install. Your bulbs come out of the headlight assembly and the HID bulbs replaces them. The OE wires aren't inside the headlight as far as I know. Maybe quads are different. I know on mine I just pulled out the OE bulbs and replaced them with the HID bulbs. Everything plugs in with no drilling or modification of any kind. I think you might have been making it a little harder than it should have been. But like I said, maybe the quads are different?
