dual to quad lamps, better?
Just happen to come across this and thought ill throw my opinion in. I got 55watt 6k Hids for my truck paid 74 for the whole setup and I must say the best investment I have made what a huge difference compared to my stock lights.
I spoke with a lighting specialist and he said that I can get 80/100 watt H-13 bulbs for my truck which should make a big difference, BUT the H-13 uses a thin base design which may overheat/melt the socket that it goes into. He said that he can produce an updated harness to accept a better designed bulb, all professionally done. The only drawback is I may lose my daytime running lights. He also asked me if I measured the volt output at the socket to see if I am getting the correct voltage. On my way home tonight I must have hit about 10 pot holes all caused from lack of lighting which makes visibility horrible and unable to see the pot holes.
Yeah I have the crappy duals on my truck, but my buddy has the quads on his. Neither of us could see for squat so we went with HID's. They make a BIG difference. You'll definitely have plenty of light.
I have the quads on my 2011...they suck....I had a 2006 2500 (the larger headlamps with factory fogs) and they were much brighter than these. I have to add aux lights to the grill just to compensate. Not to mention, the high beams don't go any higher than the lows, just more light..
I have the quads with silverstar bulbs installed on my 2010. I don't think they are that bad. I tend to ride with the low beam/ fogs on more than anything even when i'm the only vehicle on the road. When on high I loose a little light directly in front the truck due to the fogs going out but I do pick up a little bit more light farther away from the truck.
To answer your question, NO it makes no difference. I changed my 2010 over to the quad lights and it was a waste of money. I just bought a bumper with the fog light holes and am now waiting for my dash switch to come in so I can install everything. The fog/driving lights by themselves work better then the worthless headlights.
