MDS drone technical question for everyone
I am really thinking about this MDS drone issue that seems to be the biggest reason people are upset with the new Rams. I know that putting the tow haul mode in play will eliminate the MDS as well as getting a superchip . Many people do not like this option of cutting off the MDS as they think it is a band aid. I agree........to a point.
I am hoping someone will chime in here and give me a technical answer to this question as I only have my theory to work this out. If dropping the trans selector into 5th gear instead of the normal drive shuts off MDS, do all the 6 fwd gears in the trans still operate normally? If this is in fact correct than you could possibly look at it as the RAM has 1 drive selection(5th) and another drive with MDS selection (D). That would mean to me that this is not a problem as the normal drive would be used by people who dont mind the drone issue at cruising speed.

please explain to me, someone with out a clue on trans and gearing, and how this answers the question. i am sure most people here understand your answer, but can you "dumb it down" for the mechanically inept? "me" tks in advance. Steve
I was interrupted prior to finishing the post.

I have stock dual outlet exhaust.
Most of my driving is 50-60mph and when MDS activates I can feel a slight vibration and perhaps a slight droan. It is not an issue for me.
Some of those that have complaints admit to modified mufflers etc.

Once I read about it I can force/hunt replicate it.I think. But if its what I feel, its normal and no issue. It takes very light throttle at very low rpm and high gear between 40 and 50.Some one commented it feels like the engine is lugging.Well IT IS Lugging under those conditions and running 4cyl.Just about feels the same in 8cyl but is somewhat smoother at the same rpm range.I have 3.92 gears. It might be more noticeable with 3.21 or 3.55.Then its really lugging at those speeds high gear low rpm. Then again I might not even be feeling what the compliant is about.
