Default '11 Replace air tube?

Hello, I just recently purchased an 11 1500 quad cab, and oh yeah..its got a Hemi. I was looking a t CAIs and had a thought. Seems as though the factory air box is pretty much a CAI. Is it possible to change the filter with a free flowing unit and then replace the tube that goes to the throttlebody? Has this been done and would it work? I still haven't made it home yet to see my truck (overseas military) but will be home shortly. I can take a closer look at the house, but was wondering if this has been discussed.

Thanks,

The stock hose is okay, just not as smooth as the aftermarket ones. I have a K&N cone filter on the end of my stock intake hose. It sits in the airbox.

There are aftermarket ones available, but they are kind of expensive IMO for what it is.

K&N, Airaid, and others make them.

Stay with the OEM CAI, and the paper filter. Nothing does a better job of filtering the air, nothing.
