Actually I think it is preventative maintenance, these filters if overtightened for some reason are very hard to get off, in fact never try to do the first oil change yourself let the dealer do that one for sure. I think on the filter it says one full turn after the filter seal touches the engine and by hand no tools. So you get a leak you tighten it a bit check the oil probably not even low...if so filler up. I would prefer a lose filter with a small leak than one I have to buy special tools to get off.

I dont think it should leak, it was a large dodge dealer in vancouver.....

Yet the guy who did your oil change was a 18yr old lube tech. I always do my own oil changes. Avoid such situations. The techs only take oil changes if there part of a bigger job or it's very slow.

I had a faulty (Fram) filter do this the last time around. I had to swap in another filter to eliminate it. Always keep an eye out for leaks even when you do it yourself!!
