New Chrome Clad Rims
Well went out today and noticed the salt has started to get to the rims, now I just had iit at the dealer for a good washing and detailing and it was my wife that took it.The do a nice handwash for 20 bucks in and out for pickups even. She didn't look she just saw shiny and well that was that, today I had to go to the doc and well as soon as I got outside I noticed the rims starts to pit and actually show green so dealer is near doc so I pull it in no appt guy is having a bad day so he flips out on me he got it right back and well put it this way I wound up with a very nice and knowledgable Service Advisor who set it up for me to go back they have some chemical that takes it off...ya right but we shall go and see. I went back and one looks almost good enough but they are ordering me 4 new chrome clads....dam I said what about the aluminum painted ones they are cheaper he said they have to put on what is there, so 4 new chrome clads....what a joke. I wonder if they will replace them again in 2 years when they rot again. I should sell them as new with used tires and buy some real wheels. I wonder how much 4 brand new wheels with the OEM tires that have 15000 km's.
I am really surprised they are replacing them but they know that we have had our truck washed in their wash place all winter, and is always clean in the summer , no chemicals used I think they failed to wax the rims when I paid them to do so, maybe not part of the price anyway still not my fault the corrode, so they can't say we havent gotten it done and the mileage would show that those rims are crap or they didn't clean them properly while washing them or I just think the Chrome Clad and the salt in our area with the bad weather we have had, if I were them I would consider going away from the plastic chrome.

Wow they called this morning they came in oh I am so glad this happened because the broke a few of the TPMS monitors surely they will charge to warranty but anyway I decided to buy some winter rims and tires even though its almost over I still don't want the chrome clads in the salt since they are brand new now. Somehow my exhaust I thought was bent turns out the bolt was loose and they loosened it more and returned the pipe to the center of the bumper where it was supposed to be but charged me 20 bucks...should be warranty they claim for sure must have hit a snow bank and bent it but it did not require and straightening....for 20 bucks I let them win because I beat them on those rims, although they were the ones who hand wash the truck all thru winter...so what can they say. Every week if not to cold out 2 weeks if too cold or the roads are just salt factory just usually spray it off in pressure car wash but keep off the cameras and door rubbers and jambs get wiped after. Anyway others with corroded rims should get in and get them replaced.
Ya I thought they were pretty nice rim until i tapped them and found out it was plastic, what a bunch of cheapness. I havent had noticed that much with mine but its still cheap plastic which i expect to eventually **** up. I know my dad puts a layer of oil spray (forget which kind) and it works pretty good. The rims don't really stay shiny because they have a layer of oil on it but they dont rot at all. Plus its hard to keep rims clean. I dont know about everywhere else but here in northern ontario they use way too much salt its not even funny. I use my chrome rims for the winter but im gonna start putting oil on them, even though i shouldnt have to.
FYI Dodge/Chrysler is not the only care company using Chrome clad, Look at the sale gm was touting 1500 in chrome accessories like plastic snap on chrome covers for your mirrors, how cheap? You can buy all that crap after market, that is why I hate chrome now it's not even metal. I am sure they just remove the cover some how clean the rim and repaint the interior and glue on a new cover, I can' t imagine 2000 bucks worth or warranty, they had to replace a sensor in the wheel cuz they broke it doing the work I guess when you change tires you are supposed to rebuild the sensors or they seize up and you can't remove them???
Actually that happened to me already. I had low tire pressure in the back tires so i went to my usual tire shop to top up with nitro and they went to take off the fancy aluminum/plastic chrome N2 cap that came with the rims, and well sure enough they were corroded on and when the guy went to unscrew them the hole stem snapped. So make sure you guys go unscrew the cap once in a while so it doesnt seize up. They changed both under warranty. So i went to canadian tire and bought some better nicer caps for the stem valve.
Never thought id have anythyinng canadian tire on my truck, but its better than dodge caps.
