Exactly the point. Your arbitrary change interval is based on ignorance and fear vs. fact.

throw out your owners manuals, check the oil, change when dirty.
syn or dino oil, same applies, syn will give you longer change interviles and your throwing money away changing syn oil evey 3 months, as a rule dealers request three month interviles when you up grade to syn.

I'm starting to think that computer recommended short changes are a result of the changer not resetting the computer...... almost every one I've seen would add up to 8,000 by combining the two.

A word to the wise - reset it yourself after every change - only takes 10 seconds, right from the drivers seat.

And, modern oils, especially synthetics, or synthetic blends (yes, also including regulat dino oils) are very capable of going the 8,000 mile distance - usually even, much longer.

Modern, engineered, oils are truly magical compared to the oils of 10-20-30 years ago. They really are that good!

you want to play that here you go:

you move into a house that was previously owned. all the toilet seats are there, they appear to be good, so with your logic your going to keep em! me: Im going to change them because who knows who has been on em over the years, what alls been on em, and who had what disease. So im gonna spend a few bucks and change them even though they are sparkling clean

3k is a good chunk of change. I dont know about you guys but my truck is my daily driver around the DC area in bumper to bumper traffic. So yea I'll waste $30 bucks and an hour every 6/7/8 months to take care of my $35,000 truck. I understand some of you just drive your trucks to work down the highway or some easy going back roads, which I could understand every 5-10. My old truck I did about every 5 or 6, but I'm definitely gonna change more often due to this truck cost me 3 times as much as my 04

but like I said its all personal preference, do whatever you want to do. you spent a $h!t load on your truck, do what you want with it

you can get technical all day, show me oil companies data and whatever, trust me I know, I've read it, I was a mechanic, but really..

30 bucks for a better lubricated engine twice a year, translating to better mpgs, better running engine, and piece of mine ORRRRRR save a whole $30 and have dinner at applebees! man my old lady would go crazy

hey guy, twice a year, to me means every six month. , stop and go in the dc area, i would prob do more. once before every change of season, $30.00 oil change? with your style of driving i would use synthetic. as you said our trucks cost a lot, but i am not a mechanic. as for the toilet seats, you can use bleach. if that doesn't kill any germs on there you need to change more than the toilet seats. lol {i am schooled in infection control}

i believe todays oil can handle the extended oil changes. in the last ten years i'm up to 5000 mile changes. thats the longest i can do. i just don't trust the oil filters for longer than that.
