Default HID hi beam

Are the hi beams on a quad headlight system , protected with a bulb out warning and flashing the neg by the emc. Will I need cancelers if I change the hi beam bulbs to HID?

Personally I would not get HID's if your hi-beams use a separate bulb system such as the quads.

HIDs need time to warm up to produce max light output and most HID setups produce barely any light right after being turned on and can take as long as 10-15 seconds to warm up. Higher quality HIDs are better (greater initial light, reduced warm up time), but still have a warm up time of at least a few seconds.

What this means is that your "flash brights" function will not work at all since the HIDs will not be warmed up at all.

I don't know about you but I use this method in lieu of honking the horn when driving at night. Now a days vehicle sound deadening is very effective, coupled with loud stereo systems, people hardly hear horns. Flashing brights is much more effective.

Thanks for the reply. I have another car with quad lights and the low beam stays on in both low and high beam ops,( as with the ram) yes it takes a few seconds to "warm" up but the low beam does not go out, so I'm never without light.
I don't "flash brights" at night.... ever, it is dangerous to other drivers and I don't want to be responsible for an accident.
I just need to know if I need a canceler to run the hi HIDs without flickering.

i have on my 08 ram HID highs and lows (in recon black projector headlights) and do not have a problem with them warming up ive never seen HIDs that take 10-15 sec to fully warm up and ive seen many diff brands. i wouldnt personally go with out the high and low beam HID. Anyway i am in the same situation as you i am getting ready to order projector quad headlights with HID high and low beams so i have them for when my new truck gets here. The dealer that im going thru seems to think u only need cancelers on the side that runs the day time running lights. but i am just going to buy cancelers for the high and low beams so i have no worries and for all the more they cost at least i know i wont have any flickering etc.. Hopefully someone will give some info that knows but it seems that everyone is only buying HID low beams. so im just going with cancelers for both.

I had the HID lows in my 08 Ram and I turned the headlights down 5 turns and installed eyelids to create a cut off. Never got flashed.
Alot of people run HIDs in stock headlight buckets, too much light scattered everywhere. Soon laws will come in that will only allow HIDs in projector low beam setups. I wish to keep the stock low beam and only enhance the hi beam with HIDs.

well if they are adjusted correctly they don't blind other drivers, I had a guy drive at me, and I drove behind him and asked him did blind him he said no and I beleive him. So I am sure others will say otherwise but, I have yet to get flashed and then I even asked someone and was told no. So on our trucks (at least with the dual headlights) HIDS don't seem to be a problem if adjusted properly.

And sure you can take pics head on that is not a true representation cause depending on the angle your at and level and the fact there maybe some glare from the camera I don't put as much stock in those pics as I do talking to people who have come at me at been ahead of me.
