I ended up going 600 miles to get 3.92s.

There are several rants here from folks that didn't get the 3.92 gears. It sounds like a very short gear but you have to remember the tires are quite tall

They are supposedly dropping the 3.92 anyway due to CAFE standards. I ordered mine ahead of that. At the time it was the only way to get the locking differential but now that is available as a standalone option.

i would recommend the 3.92s for multiple reasons but what says it best is there are alot of posts stating they should of gone with the 3.92s i dont remember seeing anyone with the 3.92s saying they should of gone with the 3.55s.

If you can get 'em, get 3.92's.
Why?
Better acceleration and towing capacity.
Some claim better city mileage.
Highway mileage can't be much worse than 3.23's or 3.55's if you're only turning 1700 at 65mph.
I have them in my truck so they must be good!

Seriously, I've followed the threads on this topic and there seems to be a LOT more owners unhappy that they didn't get 3.92's than owners that have them and wish they had 3.55's.

And one last consideration: If you're getting 4 wheel drive and decide to change the ratio, you have TWO gear sets to change as well as somehow recalibrating your speedometer.

Get the 3.92's!

Definitely get the 3.92's if you are doing mostly city driving. You will get better city since shorter gearing will allow the truck to shift earlier into the next gear, keeping RPM's lower overall.

changing gears do not require speedo recal, only if your changing tires
