There are a handfull of 285/70/17's that are rated down to a 7" wide rim but most you'll find want a 7.5" or larger. Just depends on the brand and specific tire.

You can check my new tires thread if you'd like, but I just put 33" Pro Comp Mud terrains on mine... those are 12.5" wide and 17" rims - OEM ram rims.

You couldn't go lower than 17" rims as it wouldn't clear the calipers/breaks otherwise.

I'm sure it would clear 35" though.

I have a 3" lift in the front though so I don't know how that affects it.

Thanks

Rule of thumb is the tire should be 3" wider than the wheel, with 1" -/+ being considered "within spec".

The problem you run into with a tire that is much more than 4" wider than the wheel is the bead seal will fail much easier, causing you to lose the tire. Often happens on a fairly tight turn at decent speed when the outward force on the bead is greatest.

Also, if you go off-road at all and air down, the bead is 100x more likely to fail when the tire is too wide for the wheel. Been there, done that - no friggin' T-Shirt...

I just put a set of Goodyear Duratrac LT 285/70/17 on a set on XD Series Spy with an off set not sure of the #s. There is no rub whatsoever...
