2011 1500 Performance Torque Convertor to eliminate Drone
Many unhappy people suffering the dreaded drone...my self included. I traded in my 06 which also had drone for a new 2011 thinking they solved the issue. Guess I was an idot for thinking such crazy thoughts. That said there must be something that can be done from an aftermarket standpoint.
Here are some questions: Has anyone tried a different brand of tranny fluid and got positive results? Has any one had the truck custom tuned on a dyno to have shift point changed and improve HP at the same time? Does any company make an aftermarket performance torque convertor? Would a gear change to taller gears solve the issue? it seams like these trucks like to be between 1200 and 1500 rpms all the time when 1800 to 1900 would prevent the lugging thats causing the drone sensation.
Not sure who coined the word "Drone". A better explaination would be the sensation you get when driving a manual trans in 5th gear going 25mph.

You need to keep OEM tranny fluid!!!
06-08 Guys are using Superchips tuner with Trans Option for altering shift adjustments. It gets rid of everything you hate currently! I believe the functions are avail for the 09+ as well??? Better look into that.

Tru 'dat what the 'dog say...
The pre-06's have no MDS, hence no drone. But I seem to find the Hemi (mine at least) has a sweet spot between about 2100-2300 rpm that is a VERY good balance of power and fuel economy. I have the Superchips (which will allow you to disable MDS) and have changed my WOT shift points and it runs a LOT stronger at WOT.
As far as gears go, you want to optimally achieve an Effective Gear Ratio between 3.90 and 4.10 for the best power without sacrificing gas mileage.
There is an ongoing thread where I've posted on how your effective gear ratio is calculated by the size of your tire here:
