Default Tuner

Anybody know what the hold up is on all of the tuning companies coming out with a tuner for the 2011 tuners? I know dodge changed the OS of the 2011's but the Hemi motor is quite a popular motor. It sucks because I have my brother's Diablo Predator tuner from his 2010 Ram but I can't even use it because it's not updatable.

Turners are not easy to do. Lots of trial and error rewriting programs. They get a get a good turner program and then the manufactures have made changes on a new model year. Then turner manufactures have to crack the programs and rewrite them again. Takes awhile.

Think about it this way. Imaging the 2010 trucks were running windows. In 2011 they changed to Mac OS. During the change all administrator passwords were changed, and Mopar is not giving out those passwords.

The problem here is incredibly complicated. You can dump all the data out of the trucks ROM, but all you will have is a massive file filled with ones and zeros. From there you need decipher what is data and what is software. From there you need to decipher what the structure of the machine code is. From there you need to recreate the machine code. From there you need to decipher the protocols of the software. From there you need to recreate the software. From there you need to decipher the data.

Then you have to write your tune, which is the easy part.

Basically they have to do the equivalent of translating a book that was originally in french and that was then put into code more complex than was used any time up to about Gulf War One. Once they have done that then they can come up with a map to tune the engine.

So the short answer is it is really complicated. The long answer is it is so complicated it would have been literally impossible 10 years ago. It does not matter how much we want the end product or how popular the application is. Breaking OE tuning is a gargantuan task that gets harder and harder every year.

The other thing to consider is that every version of software is designed with the next application in mind. Chrysler may have new features planned for the next redesign of the truck. Those features may be in the current version of the software, even if the hardware does not exist. The result of this is that there are a bunch of blind alleys that the programmers may head down.

My advice? Wait. When they release the first version of the programmer, wait some more. After it has been out for six months you might want to consider buying.

Thank you for the insight. I already have the diablo predator from my brothers 2010 Ram 1500 that he traded in. Will I be able to use it once they release the 2011 tune?

More then likely it can be updated. Either via your computer or you send it back in. Call Diablo and ask them.
