Default Mileage (MPG) Again

2011 1500 Laramie Crew Cab. 3.21 rear axle, Hemi, 2WD. Midwest (IL & WI). Hand calculated with a calculator, full tank to full tank. Amazingly, the EVIC agreed, within one tenth of a mile (EVIC was low).

Two 400 mile trips, back to back. Looking at boats.

The first one, on Interstates, adhereing to 65 MPH speed limit, 24.9 MPG. No jack rabbit starts, calculated from full to full. VERY LITTLE in town driving (Prob less than 10 miles).

The second, on secondary roads, almost all country driving, and through very small towns, 21.4MPG. Never over 55 (except to pass a few). You could watch the mileage drop whenever in a town --- LOL

It really amazed my son, that this truck could get this mileage - he drives a BIG Explorer.

One of these trips, I'm gonna be pulling a boat back - so I can see what tow mileage will be like. Assuming I find one I like.

Good mpg. Went on vacation from Dallas Tx to south padre island . About 1400 mile round trip . Going south the wind was really rough 20-25 mph gust. heading straight into it. The gas milage was really off . around 14.5 -16 ... Coming back home going north I avg 20.4 running 73 mph , a/c on .... The wind really affects the truck ... 2009 cc , hemi, 321 gears , 20" tires ... Truck was full with 5 and 500#'s in the back.

We have the 3.21 diff as well and it gets exceptional mileage if you're on the highway a lot and there's no wind.

However, in town it suffers, and for anyone who drives in town a lot I'd say the 3.92 is better since what you gain around town easily eclipses what you lose on the highway...

As for towing, 3.21 will be OK on the highway but around town it's going to really suck. Watch your trans temp too.

A CC with a 3.21 and 20's has the lowest tow rating of any configuration short of the V6 models...

I don't plan on towing much weight or size - and I really like the 17's on my truck - available option. Also, the 3.21 is a good choice in the flatlands.... And, since I drive like an old man, I don't lose much in town, if at all.

We, basically, bought this truck as a Luxury SUV, with a truck box on the back.
