I agrree with H ammer as well, but I'm curious where you guys are getting these prices from. Everywhere I checked had the locker at about $500 and the True Trac with no lockers around $800...just curious.

Ok. I talked to a shop guy that told me he is the best around at this. He did say he has only done Fords and Chevys. Thats why he is unsure on the speedometer. He told me his labor will be 450. He said if you buy a hard gear like richmond they will be louder cause they are a racing gear. But if i get a soft gear like oem he said they will be quiet. He also said he will make sure the truck runs perfect before he hands it over, but if i supply the parts he will not warranty them. Only the parts he provides.

Does anyone know what the rpm is with 4.10 at 70 mph ? With 3.21 they are around 1700 . 1600 at 65.

That depends on your tire height, the shorter tire the higher the RPM, the taller tire the less RPM. My RPMS are around 2000 at 70 mph with 3.92 gears with 31.5 tall tires. I hate to spoil your fun but I wouldn't let this guy touch my truck. His first one with a Dodge...no way in hell! He's already giving excuses and he hasn't even touched it yet. Sorry but he's prepping you for the worse!

For any setup at any given speed original rpm/original gearing=new rpm/new gearing as long as transmission and tires remain the same.

This means that original rpm times (original rpm/original gearing)+new rpm

In your case (1700/3.21)*4.10=2171
and (1600/3.21)*4.10=2043

Usually for this kinda stuff I'll look at Moe's or Air Ram. The DTT is just over $500 at Air Ram and just under $500 at Moe's. Air Ram has Motive gears (any ratio) for just under $200 a set and Moe's has Yukons for just over $200 a set.
IF you don't know EXACTLY what you need or what to buy, then I'd suggest a call to Randy's Ring & Pinion. They run a bit higher than Moe's and Air Ram (but not like 4 Wheel Parts high) and their sales people know more than most full time mechanics...

What guy is seriously going to say they are the worst or average!? This guy is blowing smoke and if you are still considering going with him, good luck. But dont say that you havent been warned by almost everyone on here. For him to be tooting his own horn so hard, that would scare me away. And add to the fact that he hasnt done a Dodge, forget about it! Go with an actual shop that has alot more experience and knowledge. This guy aint it!

I say again: the quality of the parts is a close thing across the board.. Failure of the parts is MOST dependent on the quality of the install..

Your potential installer is making himself a nice little arrangement (for his purposes).. of course it will be the parts that fail- he will have the ability to quote you a warranty, without providing you a warranty..

I can't believe what you are being told in shop after shop, where the hell do you live, SHYSTERVILLE???

First of all, every gear set I have seen from any manufacturer has been the same 8620 alloy. Plenty of forum guys have Richmonds and they don't whine. What makes a ring & pinion whine is an incorrectly set backlash.
And if this guy ain't done a single AAM differential, he's gonna have trouble shimming the first one he does. Dunno how he can be an expert if he ain't even touched a Ram yet?

Hammer, I dont think he is going shop after shop. I think this is all from the same guy he went to originally.

I'm with Hammer, go find a guy that specializes on dodges. I didn't pull the trigger but I went to a guy that drives a dodge that has been featured in off road magazines. He has done so may 9.25 that he has a collection of nearly new sets lying around the shop from folks that changed them out as soon as they bought their trucks. The bottom line here was $400 labor (same quote at 3 shops), Gears from $250 to best $350, DTT was about $500, new bearings, master install kit, break in gear oil and then a service after break-in added another $200. Taxes on material here in California was another $90. The difference in the cost of the gears was not a major factor but the total was pretty high.
