Angry MyGig rhr GETTING ON MY NERVES!

I have posted this same thing another thread, so mods I do apologize but it does not seem like interests are there for replies

So I have a brand new 1500 sport with the 730n media center sales code rhr. The HU does not pick up any usb drive hard drive anything! Not even a media device, or ipod!

When I first bought my truck I plugged a WD 160GB hard drive into the plug in the glovebox, thing worked amazing! used it as an aux device, then I thought well I will just load a bunch of stuff on. I did manage to get some stuff loaded on, however I did turn the machine of in the process of doing it. The other thing I did was stuck a smaller thumb drive with a movie on it into the front of the deck. Since I did that neither of the usb ports will pick up a device. All the devices power on and seem to flash looking like they are doing something but they don't.

I have tried pulling the fuse for a day now, and still nothing. Accessed the engineering menu and reset to factory defaults. Still no recognition. Is there something I am missing! This is getting on my nerves!!!!!!

I would pull the 30amp fuse to the radio under the hood and let it reset. I was having nav issuses last week and this 30sec hing fixed it no problem.

Edit: Didn't read your whole post. The only other thing I could think is the thumb drive had some sort of virus on it.

A power reset will probably do the trick. Outside of that I'd go back to the dealer and get them to replace it. I was having all kinds of wonky issues with my 2009's RER, but the dealer replaced it with no questions asked. It's too bad they didn't calibrate the screen though on the new one. Now I get to go back to see them.

Make sure there is something on the thumb drive to begin with.

It was working fine before then just stopped all the sudden...

Took it to the dealer today got them to inspect it. The ports were working just fine, but something screwed up in the software and seems theres no way to do anything with the firmware because no one has an update or a link to the current firmware. So they are going to replace it for me!

Of course they are, they make more money that way. I bet they could have Harmon Becker fix it, in fact they would probably like to know about the issues.JMHO

Something very important to make sure of that whatever drive you are plugging into your USB input on your radio is that it is formatted as FAT32 and not NTFS. Our radios do not recognize NTFS. Plug your USB drive into your computer and right click My Computer and it will tell you underneath the drive what format it is.

The drive worked before, I did nothing to it. Yes the drive is Fat32. Seems I got a lemon of a HU. Dealer put a new one in and works fine now!

Either way it really does not matter if dodge gets money or not. My HU now works so im happy! HAHA

Default Hard drive vs flash drive

I hooked my 160 Gb external hard drive to my 730n RHR and it did not work. My 8 Gb flash drive works fine. I concluded that the RHR would only accommodate flash memory. Am I wrong?

My 160 works in the connection in the glovebox, I have even tried a 500GB in there and it works. TAKES A LONG FRICKEN TIME! but it does work. Yes I would also conclude that in the deck itself it will only read flash memory, just because it does not have to spin a disk so it can take less power.

I do know that the glovebox connection accommodates both, BUT I would not try to have something plugged in to both at the same time. That might have been the reason why it failed the first time...
