Off idle surging
2011 the first couple days after i bought it i noticed it had a surge with light throttle and the rpms would go up and down slightly, i came to a conclusion it had to be bad gas, i called the dealership and asked where they fulled the truck when i bought it and they told me they have there own bulk fuel storage in the back of the lot, i have refueled several times and have put 850 total miles on the truck and it continues to do the same thing using Chevron gas 89 octane and Lucas fuel additive which helped a little, once in a while it will clear up and the truck runs great like it did when i test drove it, today i called the dealer to take it in and have it checked out, Has any one had this type of problem?? idk if its from the fuel or if its a tuning issue but tomorrow we shall see. its a 4.7 1500, o ya if you swith the tow.haul mode on it seems to run better.
My 2011 Hemi bucked a little in bumper-to-bumper traffic when I was just barely on the throttle. The dealer 'flashed' it and it has been better. Also had a coil go bad at 3,000 miles. Don't know if any of this applies to your motor.
Agreed, you can always check to see if they have an updated firmware for the PCM. However, a tuner like Superchips or even one like Diablo with both canned and custom tuning might solve your issues and give better performance.
Cheatham,
I agree with Weedahoe that you may need the latest updates flashed into the PCM. There are updates listed in a couple of tech bulletins depending on your vehicles build date. If you want to PM me your VIN I can check for your specific vehicle.

Just got home from dealership and they updated the computer, truck seems to run better and tranny sure shifts firmer, its like a programmer was installed on it but i only drove it few miles back home ill drive it more to see how it runs.
DodgeCares i appreciate the offer and you were right about the update, Now how often do these updates come up and should we check with dealer to see about having our trucks updated?

With so many computers or "modules" on a vehicle these days there are updates that come up all the time on one vehicle or another, but there is no specific time frame.
When the Dodge engineers develop an improvement or fix based on customer and dealer feedback, it is relayed to the dealership to be loaded into the vehicles that come in or the vehicles still on the lot to be sold. When a customer brings their vehicle in with symptoms such as what you had, may times the update will correct the problem but if the vehicle is running fine there may be no need for the updates. It is the same as something like one vehicle needing a water pump and another never needing one. Computers are just like any other part that may fail or not perform correctly. The only difference with a computer is that sometimes it just needs to be reprogrammed instead of being replaced.
I utilize the discount offers on oil changes at my dealer and when I take it in I ask about any updates that could be installed on my vehicle while I am there. Usually though, if my vehicle is running good I do not even ask about updates. My personal theory is, if it isn't broke I do not want it fixed.

keep in mind also after any new flash or resetting of the pcm that all the fuel trims and other learned driving habits have been deleted. as you drive it, it relearns both short term and long term and adjusts itself off of that so be mindful of your new flash and pay attn to how it drives after 500 miles are so and compare.
