Angry Death Wobble - AGAIN!!! Err

I've got a 2010 3500LWB CTD Laramie. I've got a 4" Superlift Lift Kit. I originally had 315/70/17 T/A KO's on them and as they started to wear I notice the steering and ride was getting sloppy when I hit a bump. As the tires got more wear the slop got worse when I hit a bump. When the tires got to where I would think I had 5-7,000 more miles on them the truck started coming unhinged! I would hit a bump in the road at about 65mph and oh S*&*!!! The whole truck fealt like it was coming apart! It shook so bad the wheel caps flew off on two separate occassions. I had a friend following me to the lake while I was pulling my Polaris Ranger and I hit a bump. He got to see what I was feeling. He said it looked like my front tires were trying to wobble off the truck and the rear quarter panels were flexing in and out and it looked like the truck was going to come apart. It scared me and him both.

I took the truck to the dealership and they said "oh you've got a lift - it's the lift's fault". I took it to the shop that did my lift and they really worked hard to fix the problem. They took it to the alignment shop, put on Bilsein dual steering stabilizers, drove it and it still wobbled. They tried and tried. The tires were rotated, aligned, etc... Still wobbled.

A guy from Super Lift said to try and change the Brand of tires and see if that fixes it. I put on a new set of 35" Nitto's and BAM! NO FREAKING DEATH WOBBLE! We high fived - talked about how sucky the BFG's A/T's are anyway - you could get stuck in wet grass with them - blah blah blah.

Now, 18K miles later. I am starting to feel that same ol sloppy feeling when I hit a bumb at 65mph and it is progressively getting worse. I know the wobble is coming. I am pissed!!!!! It is so freaking frustrating!! I really thought when I switched tires that was the solution. It is apparantly something else. A buddy of mine told me to swith lift kits. The 4" lift kit that Super Lift puts out is junk. I don't know about that and I am not really wanting to fork out another couple of grand to do that unless I know for sure that is the problem.

Does anyone have words of wisdom I can pass to my guys that will be working on my truck. I am willing to sell the truck and go to brand X over this but I hate too. I really do love my truck. This has been the best truck I have ever had.

p.s. Going to brand X won't probably work. I've got two buddies with Fords doing the same dang thing with no lifts and stock tires.

first off WOW I cant believe Dodge still hasnt fixed the problem. I thought the 03-07's were the only ones. I've heard of putting BB's in to the tires to balance them instead of the lead. And I've heard that different tires can cause it. Are your ball joints, tie rods, track bar and everything good?

My 09 cummins i had a 5" lift and 37-13.5 swampers and i chewed thru front end parts like you wouldnt belive after 40k miles i did both tie rod ends on the driver side and one on the passenger side and 2 full sets of ball joints it drove me nuts and i sounds like your having the same problem i did. I ended up selling the truck. It had been my favorite truck ive had yet and damn near cried when i traded it in for a new 1500 but when the tranny puked i had to get something reliable i never found out what it was unfourtantly i tried diffrent lifts and tires and got the same problem constantly if you do fuigre it out i would really like to know what has actually costed me so much money over the time i had the truck haha best of luck to you i feel your pain

It's the steering box... People keep throwing steering stabilizers at this problem and it's really a steering box stabilizer that you need. Dealers know this too, but Dodge has declined to acknowledge the problem nor do they make the stabilizer for it for fear of being forced into a recall on all SFA models. Ford has the same problem on their 3/4 ton and larger trucks...

It's a resonance frequency problem caused by the vibration of the steering box. Easily fixable for about $200 and a 10 minute install...

As Hammer indicated above, look into a steering box stablizer. It appears that flex in the frame after the bump causes the steering to do this. I've never had it happen on my 2005 3/4, but there are many that have, hence the creation of the stablizer setup.

I am sponging every word on here guys. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the help. I am going to purchase the steering stabilizer Hammer recommended and see if that helps. I am going to see if I can find someone in the Houston area that has them so I can pick it up on Monday. If not, I will order online and have it shipped in. I am in a hurry to get this installed. Me and some buddies are leaving Wednesday for a dove hunt in San Antonio and are bringing my truck! I will let you know how it works out. I will hopefully know by this Wednesday! Wish me luck.... Thanks HammerZ71 - if it works I owe you a case of beer! LOL.....

It should, I personally know two people who have used it and it did get rid of the problem. One guy right away, the other guy had ball joint issues as well (possibly caused by the DW) but as soon as he replaced the ball joints, all front end vibrations were gone.

BTW - good luck on the dove hunt. I spent a week in July up at my farm property in Georgia tilling and planting sunflowers and sorghum in preparation of dove hunting in September. I'm a dove hunting nut!!!

Oh yeah, and I drink Yuengling... LOL...

Just had the install done on the BD Steering Stabilizer at Texas Off Road. Trucks getting an alignment right now. Supposed to be on the road at noon for San Antonio. That's a 4+ hour trip from Nederland, TX. I'll let y'all know how everything went. Fingers are crossed!
