Default Transmission not fully engaging in 5th

2009 SLT QC 4X4 5.7H - several weeks ago I noticed my gas mileage dropping - about 2mpg - upon watching my tach I noticed it does not fully shift into 5th (OD) unless I run up the speed and back off the gas. It shifts into 5th but when I "baby" the throttle I can get it to "shift" again, dropping ~100 rpm's @ 55 & close to 200 rpm's @ 65. It seems to shift better at highway speeds (doesn't need the coaxing) and worse at the low end of overdrive engagement. Been to the dealership - they reflashed the shift points even though their diagnostics didn't show anything wrong.
And that's where I'm stuck. Their computers tell them everything is fine so they tell me everything is fine. I've got about 42K on the truck and it did not behave like this until about 6 weeks ago & for no obvious reason.
Also, the mds doesn't seem to be a factor - it comes on in both 5th gears.
Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Could it be the tourque converter not locking up.

I asked this question when I first got my truck. No exact answer on why but I have driven a few different rams and they all act this way. My truck will not shift into the second overdrive until I get to around 63 MPH. Here is the link to the question when I asked it. As far as why your truck just started doing it I can't help.

Have you had any recent service work done, like in the past few hundred miles...???

Had the tie rod end recall done but that was after I noticed the wierd shifting. No other work recently (besides an oil change).

Thanks for the link - I searched before posting but didn't find that. Wierd that some do this and others don't and mine just started. Luckily my truck (first build) doesn't have many of the problems I've read about in here (yet?). Thanks again.

When you did the oil change, did they put the right weight oil in...??? (5w20)
If they didnt, then you might have an issue going on with the MDS.
Some of these stealerships like to use re-conditioned bulk oil.
This can give you some driveability issues.

By the sounds of your symptoms I would say its your torque converter. I had the same issue with my truck, the only way I noticed was because I was towing and the od would never kick in. It eventually threw up a code and ended up being the torque converter deffective, I had posts on it here.

The stealership won't do anything until a code pops up. The only way I was able to pop a code up was by towing somethingt heavy going up a long hill and not letting the od kick in. It would then cause the engine light to come on and throw a code that I would reset with my superchips. It would then be ok until a similar scenario would happen.

Got it chAnged now its a new truck

Do not forget, your MPGs will drop this time of year. Being in MI the cold does it. I lost alomst 1MPG so far. This could be contributing to some of the loss along with your other issue.
