Gear change cost
Ok. I got a bid from tranny shop today. 2wd. 1800 plus tax including labor for oem 3.92 gear with posi. He said he will use only oem on dodge. He said aftermarket gears will whine. Said if people tell you they wont, they are full of it. Said aftermarket would be 1400.
Also said going to 4.10 would be 175 more then 3.92.
He used my vin number, so he must be getting the stuff right from chrysler. Is this too high fellas, or should i just do it. I currently have 3.21

Looking at pricing on Randys Ring and Pinion, factory gears for a 10.5 are $750, aftermarket (Yukon) are $505 Posi runs about $710. Then you need a master install kit for about $100-$150
So the prices seem reasonable enough

As far as price, I did Yukons, 4.56 on my 06 FX4, got from Randy's Ring and Pinion with master rebuild kit. This was a 4x4 that already had a LSD ( but you say posi here and are also upgrading from the open diff ) and my total cost installed at a trans and rear shop was $2200 out the door. And they made NO NOISE at all, in 2wd or 4wd so I disagree with this 'whine' statement for Yukons if he installs them right.
For that much $$, I would go with the 4.10, you can still stay with Dodge OEM if that is your choice.

old thread but i got lifted with 35s and my 3.92 felt slugish i asked shop who did lift on price for 4.56. 3200.00
was like 1200 for rear the rest for the front diff. this is a expensive shop in nj. gear changing dropped way down on the things id like to do list lol
The biggest key to it all is getting someone who knows what they're doing. Drive line places are typically the safest bet. Steer clear of any "all-in-one" shops as they usually don't know what they hell they're doing.
As for the 3200....I'd still be laughing in their face if that was me.
