Star Case - Transmission noise - For those that are still looking for this info
Anyone else with the new updated TC that cures not just the torque converter issue,
but the buzzing in the steering wheel and gas pedal, drivers seat as well..?
Looks like the "poll" is at 50/50 right now. So 1/2 these trucks have issues.

For those that are wanting to know whats causing the TC issue:
The noise is caused by excessive lash between the turbine hub and turbine damper spline inside the converter. There is a small amount of tolerance on the spline teeth (for both parts), so the lash will vary from converter to converter. Many will have a small amount of lash, and therefore no noise. Others will have slightly more lash, and therefore will exhibit the noise. The noise is not a durability concern, but it is an annoyance for those who notice it. The replacement converters have a tighter turbine hub spline (which is actually an interference fit in some cases) which eliminates the noise.

Hey Gang,
Quick question on this, in 2WD I dont notice this, but in 4WD the truck does vibrate considerably. Is this vibration a normal thing with these trucks as you hear people say "you will notice the truck vibrate in 4WD a bit", Or is it due to this issue? I notice it not mainly when accelerating at time, as its felt throughout the wheel (vibration) that is..
IF unrelated, sorry to hi-jack the thread, I'll post accordingly.

First check all 4 tires tread depth with a tread depth gauge, if you have a tire thats worn more than another, it will cause the 4wd to actually fight itself and cause a vibration. Also make sure all the tires match in size and brand. Most of all, check the tire pressure. The tire pressure wants to be set equal all the way around the truck. Last of all, you may want to have the balance checked... you could possibly have a tire belt thats letting go just enought to throw off the tire diameter and cause a shake/vibration when the drive train is loaded harder being in 4x4 mode. Another issue can be worn driveshafts up front. If the 4x4 mode isnt used often, things can also take a so called set and vibrate. Hard to tell without actually being right there to look at some things and roadtest the truck.
Anywhoooo, hope some of this helps you dude, some things to ponder anyway...take care.
If he didnt, you may want to follow up with the dealership in a week to make sure it got orderd.
Usually, chrysler is making ALOT of dealers jump thru hoops before they`ll release a replacement TC.
No idea, I had brought in the staircase photo in this thread and said to them to specifically check for these symptoms. The put it on the rack and tested it. Told me they have ordered the replacement converter.
I did not stand and watch, but as long as my truck gets the revised torque converter I'll be happy.

From the first time you talked to the dealership, how long was it before they ordered your torque convertor (???)
A friend of mine is dealing with this issue and they are making him jump thru hoops over this TC problem.
His truck barely has 3,000 miles on it... and after a few trips to the dealer, still hasnt got his fixed yet.
I`m not understanding how some are in an out with it being fixed, but my friends truck is NOT fixed yet.
His dealer is on it, but seems the hold up is chrysler`s techline guy might be the problem...dunno
The dealer/tech working on his truck has already told chrysler that it IS the torque convertor causing the problem.
I would like to see people post in here with great detail from the first time they visted the dealer, to being fixed.
I find it hard to believe why some are in and out and fixed in a few days and some arent.
Just trying to get to the route of the problem on why some are held up, some aren`t.
