Debadge, paint them and rebadge
I am thinking of debadging painting the badges a similar color to the rims or step bar (matte black) or plasti dip and reapplying them i was thinking of doing this to all of them, ram and all as well as the chrome around the grill. Never debadged before so need some advice on how to do this properly. Also what do you think of this idea? Will it look good if done properly or do you think it may be a disaster?
I think it possibly could look good, just never seen it done or the finished product.
I used Go Gone and fishing line to get my badges off and didnt leave a single strach of my black truck. Just look alot of elbow grase.

Use the fishing line to get the badge off, but it will leave some of the 3M tape on there, and its good stuff. Other people have removed it by just working at it using rubbing alcohol or something else. I tried that, I got the hemi badge off the drivers side and I had blisters everywhere and worn out gloves. This took me an hour to do. I went the next day and bought an eraser wheel I then proceeded to finish the whole truck in less then an hour with no marks!
It was 30 bucks I never regretted paying.
There is a cool trick to getting the badges off. First heat em up a little with a heat gun then use the fishing line to saw back and forth between the badge and sticky tape. Pretty basic and easy, badge should come off very quickly and easy. This will leave the thick 3m black adhesive stuck to truck. Now here's the trick; start carefully in a corner of the black stuff with your fingers until you've peeled just a tiny amount of the black stuff up, now pull it or peel it BACKWARDS and a little away with your fingers no tools required, thats the key backwards like those gooey wall hanger things you see advertised. You have to resist the temptation to peel it forward or it will just tear and you have to start over. Once you get the hang of it, it goes fast and just leaves a little outline crud that comes off with goo gone or a little laquer thinner if you're careful. Then a little windex and then some kind of car wax. Done.
For my Monte Carlo I used a hair dryer and one of those skinny bondo spatulas. To remove the residue I used the degreaser Zep and/or kerosene. After everything's cleaned up and the emblems are done up, 3M makes an emblem glue which I have had no problem with in terms of holding up, but I have never tried to remove it yet.
done it several ways. Not worth posting pics here since you can only use files of 19k. Too little. Looks on another site where I have posted many large size pics to see. You have been on the other site. search...waynebyrom
