Default How to know if the autodimming exterior mirrors are working?

I'm supposed to have the autodimming exterior mirrors, but I can't tell. They seem really bright at night, and my old chevy autodimming mirrors got visibly darker. In addition, my old chevy (2010 camaro, so not that old) had visible line around the autodimming mirrors and you could see the difference between the dimming portion and the non-dimming portion.

It IS on my window sticker (big horn on SLT) so I think I should have it, but the manual says its controlled by the interior autodimming mirror, so I dont think theres a separate control for it.

any help appreciated!

thanks!

On the Big Horn do you have the towing mirrors or the std mirrors. If you have the tow mirrors (the ones that flip up) I believe you lose the auto dim on the exterior mirrors. My inside mirror is supposed to auto dim but it never has. The little green light is on but it never changes. Don't know if it is because of the rear window being so fr back or not? (Quad Cab)

I have auto dimming exterior (and interior) mirrors on my TRX4. At night you can definetely tell they dim, especially when vehicles are behind you. I have no seperate control, it is all auto. I may be mistaken but I think they are controled by the sensor on the dash.

If the car lights have a slight blue/green tint to them, like the rear view mirror, then it's working. Although I don't know how well they work if the mirrors are pointed to the rear like many people set them.

2010 Hemi 4x4 QC Sport here.... I have auto dim mirrors in and out.
Has a push button on the interior mirror to switch back an forth.
They do dim down slowly, so it may be hard for you to tell.
Another poster says they turn to a greenish tint, correct.

I'll look for the greenish tint. It was much MUCH more apparant on my chevy, and the autotinting mirrors are (as odd as most of you will probably think) the only reason I went with the bighorn quad cab. (I was going to buy a crew cab without them for cheaper). Just doesnt seem to do much, but I guess I just need to hope they are better than nothing at all...

You should be able to tell right off the bat at night, it is a greenish tint. If you still get regular glare at night from headlights someting is not right. Mine you could tell immediately they work.

Agreed. I sometimes notice it when I open my garage and it's real bright outside, as I pull out the mirrors dim a little with the greenish tint.

I did get a LOT of glare, so maybe something is fishy...

I think I may play around tonight with shining a bright spotlight on it and see what happens!

I have a 2010 Ram 1500 Quad Big Horn with the standard mirrors. As others have stated, the auto dimming feature is switched on by a button mounted at the bottom of the inside rear view mirror. When auto dimming is on, the button is illuminated by a small green LED.

When switched on or off the transition is very slow. I leave mine on all the time.

Regards,
Dusty
