Missing Key FOB (options?)
Do you have remote start? If not, it may be cheaper to get one installed at the dealer (mine was about $350) than buying 2 new fobs. With the remote start you get two fobs and they will program your old one so all three will work but only the 2 new ones will remote start.

Even though my truck already has the Remote Start feature, purchasing the complete Remote Start kit (p/n 82212194) was substantially less than purchasing two addt'l FOBIKs.
- programming charge: $49.95
- 82212194 remote start kit: $228.00 (includes two new FOBIKs)
- 2 p/n 68029829AB key blanks (not included in the kit) $28.00 each
Total drive-out cost including tax: $357.38
AND I came away being the proud owner of a complete spare Remote Start kit (minus the FOBIKs of course) - even includes the WIN module and full installation instructions. Perhaps I should put that on eBay & see if I get any takers...
I'll admit I was a bit disappointed to learn that the "keys" were extra cost ($28 ea) and not included with the FOBIKs, but we're still money ahead.
Thanks again for the great tip. We now have 3 working FOBIKs and everyone is happy. By the way, I learned that the maximum number of FOBIKs that can be programmed to one WIN module is eight (8).
Here's to you!

Nice!
For all to understand. If you lose a remote/key or only have one remote/key you MUST have a dealer program it for you. The ONLY way for you to program another remote/key yourself is if you have TWO-Original remote/key fobs.
I purchased a bare key off Ebay before I lost a key fob and programmed it. This way if I lost a key, I'll have the originals to program another. Plus, with aftermarket alarm/starter I have a 2way remote and didn't want a bulky keyfob. The blank key fits nicely in my pocket. It's the same style as the early 2000's(Sentry I style keys)
Ebay key cost me $24shipped with the Rams head logo on it. I paid $1 for the key cut and it took 2minutes to program it. The only downside to the online key purchasing, is if the key gets cut incorrectly. Then you are out the $25 or so you paid for the key.
Sentry II keys are what they are.

Not being such a devout fan of eBay, allow me to just say the following:
The "Keys" that need to be "cut" are only $28 from the dealer and they (the parts dept) make the cut based on the VIN, not based on trying to copy a key on a cutting wheel. (risk $25 on eBay or spend $28 for the real deal). Hopefully that decision should be easy.
For the sake of clarity, we're talking about the physical, conventional double-cut "key" that's used to manually unlock the doors and tailgate (& glove box if you have a locking glovebox). It has no other purpose. You cannot start your 4th Gen truck with it. For starting you need a FOBIK.
By comparison, the Key FOBs (aka FOBIKS) with which you can actually start your Gen 4 truck are sufficiently expensive as to make the aftermarket ones kind of a risky purchase (in my opinion). For example, a previously programmed FOBIK cannot be reprogrammed a second time in spite of several hucksters claims to the contrary. Even with the genuine article if the dealer screws up & enters the pin code incorrectly, no further attempts with that FOBIK can be made. It's ruined. I'm sorry, but I would be extremely skeptical about purchasing one on eBay. Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice, shame on me.
The WIN (Wireless Ignition Module) is only good for a maximum of 8 FOBIKs, 2 of which came with the truck, leaving you with only 6 attempts. However, I think (not sure) that the WIN can be erased & start over, but if you do, any FOBIKs previously married to it (before erasure) are subsequently worthless. The FOBIKs have what's known as WORM memory (Write Once Read Many) with no erase (or reset) capability.
Buyer beware.

The above links are for aftermarket keys. I purchased a Mopar key from a Mopar dealer on Ebay. I wouldnt buy anything aftermarket in regards to that sort of thing. Grey head keys are Sentry II and are all the same, black keys are Sentry I and cannot be used.
*Here's some repetative info that has already been discussed that I came acros and is a bit clearer than we have all described;
What are Sentry keys?
Sentry key is an electronically coded ignition key that sends a signal to the vehicle electronics. If the signal is recognized the vehicle will start and run. If the vehicle does not recognize the signal the vehicle will start and run for 2 seconds then shut off. After 6 unsuccessful attempts the system will shut down until the a recognized key is used.
How do I know if I have Sentry key?
The Sentry key has a very thick rubberish base with either the Chrysler or Dodge logo imprinted. Also, the base of the Sentry key is gray, standard key is black.
I have Sentry key, How do I get replacement or additional keys?
You must use a Mopar Senty keyblank.
How do I program new Sentry keys?
If you already have two valid keys you can program new keys by doing the following:
1: Insert the 1st valid key into the ignition and turn the ignition ON for at least 3 seconds but no longer than 15 seconds
2: Turn ignition OFF and remove the 1st key
3: Insert 2nd valid key and switch the ignition ON within 15 seconds. After 10 seconds a chime will sound and the Theft Alarm light will flash
4: Turn ignition OFF and remove the 2nd key
5: Insert the new Sentry key into the ignition and switch to ON within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds a single chime will sound and the Theft Alarm light will stop flashing, turn on for 2 seconds and then off
Your new key is now ready to use. You can repeat this process up to a total of 8 keys
If you do not have 2 keys you must have the dealer program any new Sentry keys

Thanks for the thorough clarification on the Sentry keys. Obviously they are much different than the 3-button & 4-button remote FOBs (FOBIKs) and are not interchangeable.
As with the Sentry keys, the WIN module can only learn 8 FOBs. ALso from what I've witnessed of the dealership programming routine, I'd be a little suprised if the 2-key programming of a 3rd would work with the FOBs. Does anyone know for certain?
