Default Check egine light at 27k just an injector phew!

I have a 2010 Ram 1500 4x4 Big Horn. Other than the complete crap factory Goodyear tires she has been a good rig for 27k miles. Out of the blue I noticed she was idling a little rough then bink the check engine light came on.

Dealer said #3 was misfiring. They swapped plugs and coil but didn't fix. Then they tore into the head, removed rockers and pushrods and performed a compression test, she was good to go on compression man what a relief.

Then they moved the injector to another cyl, the miss followed the injector so they tested all of them. That injector was bad, another was a bit dodgy so they are replacing 2 of them.

They did the tie rod end and HVAC recall while they were at it. Should have the truck back in a few days as they had to order parts.

Have to say I have been real happy with this truck. She's got a couple oddities, the RPM drops to 450-500 sometimes at a stop but its done that since day one. The only other thing I have noticed in 27k miles is when in cruise control at 65mph every once in a while the RPM's will jump a couple hundred for a half a second almost likes its grabbing a lower gear then return to normal, this on flat road.

Mine jumps a couple hundred rpm when eco mode cuts in and stays there until eco mode cuts back out, not sure why it does that, but it doesn't seem to affect anything.

Good to here you're happy and your dealer is getting things fixed up for you!

Yep I'm quite happy with my truck, she's been on 3,000 mile coast to coast trips twice now once pulling a 6x12 trailer and I could not be happier. Quite comfortable and I do 1,100+ miles the first 2 days on those trips and don't have back or butt ache issues. Plenty of power. I'd almost rather be in my truck driving than doing anything else.

i am surprised they did not check the injectors before they tore into the head, yet they tried the ignition, those two mimic each other in problems specially when you are talking individual injectors and coils and such like we have on the ram. I must say their mechanical knowledge worries me a bit.

I questioned them on this, they told me Chrysler dictates to them the order of the diagnostic testing and in this case Chrysler told them to perform the compression test before the injector test.

After thinking about this it made sense, if you have a compression problem taking out the injector replacing the injector might solve the problem temporarily then it would back to the shop again so its good they eliminated that. They also mentioned that they see frequent valve seat problems on this engine in local law enforcement vehicles, apparently they have done quite a few valve jobs on them.

yea but you don't have to take the head off to do a compression test
