The basic rear view mirror in my 2009 1500 is too small : if I adjust the right side to see the right edge of rear window, the left side only shows to the left side of the CENTER pane of the read window. Any recommendations.

Just a comment - the overall rear view ability in this truck is a big problem: side mirrors have insufficient view width also, and the regular rear view mirror is totally undersized

 

Never really noticed the issue you bring up. My 09 seems to be ok for rear visability.

Suggestion: get an aftermarket rear view camera like they have for RV's.

 

X2 with mike2810... Never noticed an issue with this... Should've ordered tow mirrors for side mirrors... And for rear view go to autozone and buy one of those gaudy ones that go halfway across your windshield lol

 

I've really noticed much difference through the years with any of my trucks. However as metioned, the tow mirrors make a significant difference!

That's a bit extreme - I was thinking of a mirror about another 2 inches wider.

For all the replies saying they don't notice - I am somewhat surprised, no amazed is a better word!

There are most surely large blind spots in the view:

• If you adjust side view mirrors to try and cover the "standard" blind spot to the side and behind, you can NOT see straight down the side of the vehicle.
• The rear view mirror does NOT view thru the entire read window.
• The tilt of the vehicle and the high tail gate create another hazard in the direct rear, where you can NOT see very small cars

 

Don't you look out your your windows to check a Blind spot anyway?
Why would you use your mirrors, there will always be a blind spot no matter how big the mirror is.

That's the first thing they teach you in driving school

OP, I understand your valid points, and I'm always, always entertained when I have a small compact (typically a hybrid) so close to my rear bumper I can barely make out the rooftop of the vehicle in my rear view mirror over the tailgate. So much for the two second rule, right?

I really wonder sometimes if they actually ever considered who's going to be on lossing end of that impact, should I have to apply my brakes suddenly to avoid a upcoming road hazard.

 

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this is the first truck you have ever driven.

 

Maybe he has a very flexible neck.
