2012 Surging when shifting
Thanks for that. I hope everyone would call Chrysler direct if they are not getting the proper service or are having trouble getting an issue diagnosed correctly at the dealer. While the assistance center cannot always solve the problem, in most instances they have the resources to get expert techs involved or to work with the dealer to solve the issue. If nothing else the issue is now on record with Chrysler in case something happens later.
If you think it's MDS related, put your Tow/haul mode or O/D ON and that will disable MDS.
My truck used to surge at WOT in between shifts. Its because Torque management(TM). If I sat relaxed, my head would go forward in between shifts. Ridiculous.
I'm not sure what you'd consider surging, but Dodge cuts the ***** off these trucks when shifting happens. TM is at 80% during WOT shifting, so your truck would essentially lag due to the 80% loss in power while shifting. The timing of the TM and shifting could be off and you might be experiencing early disengagement of the TM, essentially providing 100% power at the end of the shift making it feel hard.
Nothing like losing 312hp during a shift and it prematurely kicking in.
I've also had minor surging forward issue's when coming to a stop, but didnt think it was all that bad. it was almost like the T/B got stuck. thats happened maybe 2 or 3x's in 10kmi but it was suddle enough i didnt give it much thought.
This was a smart "waranty saver" for Chrysler. there's no other reason to have TM. My TM is reduced to 10% and shifts way better than stock tuning. Much smoother and no delayed lag. Again, makes no sense other than to provide the "Lifetime Powertrain warranty" back when i bought mine so they'd have to do less repair work.

I have tried tow haul mode also, no change. my main concern is that it only happens from 4th to 5th, even when i shift manually. It will surge under power or just cruising. Sometimes 500 sometimes 2000 Rpm.
I just recently had this issue on my 2011, I took it to the dealer and they Flashed the tranny with new/updated codes, and it fixed the rough shifting and the other issues i was having.
Hope this helps

is the "surging" just the RPMs or the truck itself. If it's between shifts and the RPMs jump only when shifting between 4 & 5 and the flash did not fix it, then you have a slipping trans. They need to open it up most likely.
