That is just what happens. I let one of the so called transmission experts at the dealer drive it and he said it was normal, MDS kicking in. No way!

Just got my 1500 back from the shop. They had it three weeks to rebuild the transmission. Finally no more surging, shifts smoothly. I have to give Chrysler credit for providing me a rental car while they did the repair, but I still feel like they should have just replaced the transmission instead of taking three weeks to rebuild it. At least it is finally fixed.

Hmmm... NEW 2012 truck? Glad they got it fixed, but I would have HAD to insist on a crated, brand new transmission, as a replacement.

Thanks goodness for that long powertrain warranty eh ?
( Mine is in the shop right now getting a new torque converter. )

Sucks to hear about your trans. Not to threadjack but, have you or anybody else noticed odd rpm swing in 2nd gear? On my 2012 the rpms will hang a bit while going through 2nd gear under light to moderate throttle.

Default 2012 Ram 1500 5.7 trans

Anybody ever wonder why there is no 3rd gear. Jumps from 2nd to 4th...in auto. try shifting manualy. Call me crazy, but count the gears as it shifts...

the 2-3 shift is very close in ratio i u shift manually u will notice this maby 200rpm diff on the shift there not really 6 speed transmissions rather 5 speed utilizing 2nd prime meaning still using 2nd gear clutch packs just inputing on a different member of the planetary set.its almost a useless shift but if ur haulin a heavy load im sure it would help having that extra step that way its not as big a jump to 4th
