Known electrical issues
I know insurance should pay for another truck, but i hope they compensate payment for lift, tires, wheels, nerf bars, bull bar, fiberglass bed lid,etc...........more or less all of my accessories,i have all the receipts, and pictures...I will be going through h@ll for the next couple of months!
They could be, it all depends on the wiring and how it done, or in fact if it was even removed. This is one of those things that is not pre-wired from factory. There are some things like the power mirrors etc: that have the wiring harnesses there, but not plugged in. The headrest players are not among these few, chances of the plugs even being at the bottom by the seat are slim to none, let alone in the seat.
SO having said that all units will need new wiring. The ones that are not all in one units (just the screen) will need wiring back to the main deck. Those will just be audio cables only, so we need to worry about how the screen gets its power. Which in this case will NOT be just plugged into the deck and controlled through there. It will need to be run back to the fuse panel, and also run off a new form of ignition switch or 12V controlled source. Or at least this is the way that it should be done...
Now I don't know anything about your local shop that did the installation. But I do know some of them install aftermarket electronics with poor quality. They do it quick, make it look good on the outside, but when they are wiring they just splice into anything they can. I work with electronics installer, and the craziness of installing things in these new trucks are getting impossible. In fact he has even started charging more for some of the things he installs, just because he MUST run new lines. Its not as easy as finding a 12V source anymore and tapping into it. You run the risk of tapping into a source controlled by an electronic module. You run the risk of overheating/surging/whatever!, which can cause many issues.
For instance, I replaced my interior bulbs in my cab on my 07. Thought it was just pull the old one out, put the new one in. NOPE we had to install resistors to fool the computer into thinking the other bulb was still there. The truck would keep the other interior bulbs on just on a lower brightness to signal the bulb was out. This ran my battery dead, and also did create some minor ECU issues. It was all sorted out after the battery died and reset the ECU. But this all came from just replacing a bulb, and it was on an 07! The electronics have further been upgraded, and whenever we do an install we just run a new power source right away and don't deal with it.
I would ask if someone could look into looking at what wiring was left, IF you can even tell :S. I would not be surprised if they just pulled the headrest players out and left all the existing wiring there.
