Default Changing spark plugs and wires 09 Hemi

I want to put performance plugs and plug wires in my 2009 ram 1500 5.7 Hemi. I am not sure the best way to go, I have read I need to do the wires and the plugs, but told by an individual at an auto store I dont need wires with the coils these engines have. I was looking for some help on this and what would be reccomended. I have ordered the E3 plugs already and was wondering if I should also get a plug wire set and how difficult it would be to install??

1: These engine has no wires.
2: E3 spark plugs are bad idea, especially on Hemi. waste of money, I gurantee you they will fail in less than 20k miles, Just google their reviews. Besides, Dodge engine doesn't like any plugs other than Factory brand, only use Champion or NGK for Dodge, depending on the engine. you can upgrade the Platinum/iridium plugs, but do not use "magazine spark plugs"
3: doing spark plugs in the RAM truck are painful, the rear cylinder are hard to reach if you do not have the right tool, such are flexible spark plug socket or correct length extension. probably will take you 2-3 hours.

E3 spark plugs are horrible!!! When the E3 plugs were available for the LX platform vehicles a few years back on the 5.7 (As stated by steak59) were proven to be a fail prematurely!

Go onto any LX, LY, or truck Chrysler forum and type E3 plugs, likely to find very unsatisfied results.

I do have to agree with everyone else here as well. My experiences with my 07 Hemi, is that motor works best with anything that is copper top. I pulled my factory plugs out an put in some NKG laser iridiums or something like that, and the motor puked them out in 20,000kms. I purchased some champion double copper tops after that and had no issues at all.

Its just something that the hemi likes are the copper-tops.
I don't know much about the E3 plugs, but I have herd mixed reviews about them. Some guys claim they are good, others are bad. What I do know is anyone who has put them in a Hemi, is that they are no good.

I'm not trying to make anyone look stupid here either. But are you aware that the Hemi has 16 spark plugs? It has a separate coil pack per cylinder, and underneath that coil pack are 2 spark plugs, so there is literally no wires. Don't know if you know that or not but gathering that you thought that you had to re-do the spark plug wires, you might not have.

Power,

Use the plugs that are recommended in the owners manual.

E3 plugs are a pulse duration plug. GM has a TSB out on pulse duration plugs. Causing charge system issues, skipping etc. Its a low voltage bleed over from the plugs interfering with other electronic items. Been post of them doing the same on Dodge's with Hemis. Other then not using a pulse duration spark plug any of the platinums or iridium seem to work well from what I've read. Other sources say the hemi is not very picky when it comes to plugs. I read on this forum they are. But thats not what is noted elsewhere. I called several plug manufactures and talked to their tech assistance about plugs. None had any warnings or issues about Hemis and plug issues. I finally went with Autolite Iridiums with a 5 year no mileage limit guarantee. Quality and price. When I bought them Amazon.com had them on sale for $6 bucks each. Autolite had a $2.00 each rebate. $4.00 bucks a plug for Irduims was a steal! I've had them in about 6 thousand miles with excellant fuel mileage, maybe a bit better idle. Like the fact that I'm not going to worry about plugs until the truck has 130,000 miles now. All of the plugs I shopped and inquired about were ALL copper cored. That seems to be the norm in the spark plug world.

Hi,
I am the tech manager at Autolite spark plugs. E3 plugs are simply copper core plugs with a fancy sidewire. usually have good initial performance and then it quickly degrades as the edges wear off the sidewire. Autolite XP Iridium 5325 plugs will work great in your truck and last 100k miles. Do it once and be done for a long time. You should replace the rubber plug boots on the bottom of the coils, they get dry and crack and should be replaced when the plugs are changed.
