2012 Ram Tailgate Dent (Defect?)
Update: I tried to upload to images but the photos are 5MB. I have also noticed that it appears the right tailgate cable (side of the dent) is shorter than the left, which may cause an increase in tension on the right. Does anyone know if there is some kind of bracket attached inside the tailgate? The dent is located appx 2 inches in and 2 inches up from the lower right corner of the tailgate. I will see if I can put the camera in low resolution mode tomorrow.
I am a new Ram owner and forum member. I have had my '12 1500 4x4 Laramie Crew for just over a month and I have a strange dent in the lower right section of the tailgate. There are no scuffs/scratches and it looks like something internal to the tailgate has pulled in creating a dent that looks like two small dings seperated by about two inches. I am going to take it to the dealership when I get a chance, but was wondering if anyone had this issue. I can post pics this evening if it may help.
I have not put anything over 25 pounds in the bed and I am freakish about keeping it clean.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

I've loaded my 400lb snowblower numerous times without ever having any problems on my 3rd Gen. That doesn't include the 200lbs I weigh which adds to 600lbs of pressure exerted on the cable areas.
I think OP is talking about where the gate resides over the bumper, almost as if the gate had contacted the bumper.
OP, is it possible you had something resting on the bumper when you opened it up? The weight of the tailgate can cause a dent where you are speaking of. There is tremendous amount of pressure at that area due to leverage. Just a thought...
WE NEED PICS..haha You can use a host sharing site like Photobucket and copy the URL of the image. You can also use Paint to shrink the Pic size down to like 30% so you can use this site for a host uplad service. That willmake it small enough.

Understand the thought that something could have been left on the bumper; but that did not happen. I took it to the dealer, he sent pics to Dodge, and they have agreed to fix the dent. I am dropping it off now. If this goes smooth, i will include the dealer name. I will also let all know if there is any intel i can put out concerning a potential issue, if there is one.

When I did my BL I unknowingly put my rear bumper back on too high. I didnt realize this until I let the tail gate down and it literally rested n the bumper. So I gotta back up Dirty on this one
I also have one tailgate cable that is slightly longer than the other. With no load on the gate only one cable is holding it up. I have never noticed any issues with the tailgate and I've had a heavy 2up snowmobile sitting on the tailgate for hundreds of miles at a time.
