Easy. www.amsoil.com Join the preferred club they offer. Then the prices are not hard to swallow. Big Brown delivers to my door usually in 24 hours. I just ordered some 15w40 Marine/Diesel oil about 1PM today and just got a confirmation e/mail that it ship from a Virginia whse. Been buying spray grease,lubes,wiper blades ,oil filters,oil for years on line. I hate going to stores and such.

This is what I do. It is 1k less than the 6k in the manual, but it is cheap insurance.

I have a 3rd gen 1500 4.7L V8; I'm aware of this sludge risk but really don't know how to find symptoms. Do you have to remove the head? something else? I'm trying to research this problem today. (Happy New Year!)

Pull a valve cover. I thought I read that the 4.7 had a minor issue with 'sludge' buildup around the oil cap area because of location. But it wasn't a serious issue affecting any thing. Maybe someone else is in the know about it.

bought an 04 grand with 4.7 new. have used m1, changed oil every 5000 miles, engine runs fine, pushing 170000 miles. i was told change the oil at this interval and use a good syn and you wont have any problems. i wouldn't use amsoil extended oils with this engine.

I just change mine when the truck tells me too...I check it periodically to make sure the levels are good. But I let the truck tell me when new stuff is needed.
I'm still not sure how it senses it, maybe someone else on here could chime in. But I have around 23000kms on it, and I have only done the oil twice. I put in castrol synthetic both times. I know it definitely does not sense how many kms you have driven, otherwise I would have done it more.
It must have something to do with viscosity, engine hours, and efficiency. HOWEVER just to let you know, if you plan on doing it yourself it takes just a bit more then 5.7 liters of oil. I get mine done at the shop, but I have to buy an extra liter to fill to the appropriate level. Which I don't mind cause it leaves me with some extra in case I need to put new stuff in.
