Default '09 Tailgate Lock

I just installed a tailgate lock in my truck and have a question about how far the key turns.

I followed the instructions for keying the lock and it seemed to work except for how far it turns and the position of the key slot, so I wanted to check on that. For some reason after keying the lock it ended up at 9 o'clock for the unlock position and 2 o'clock for the lock position.

1.) That means the turn of the key is not 180 degrees, I was just checking to see if that's the way others were, as how far they could turn your key.
2.) Why the key slot is horizontal (9 o'clock) and not vertical I am not sure but it works so I am assuming this is okay?

Basically I just want to make sure that there isn't something wrong so that when I get my bed cover it will be securely locked.

Thanks

The instructions only apply to when you are coding the lock, not operating it. You will only be able to turn the key 180 degrees when the lock initially codes itself to your specific key which ends up near the 6-7 o'clock position. When you turn it back through 3 o'clock to the verticle position, the lock is then coded and will never go back past 2 o'clock.

I just looked at my factory installed lock for you and it is exactly the same as yours. About 9 o'clock to 2 o'clock turning clockwise, key comes out when it is straight up and down. If you can't open the gate when the key is locked, then you have everything installed properly.

Just so I am clear, unlock is 9, then you turn yours to 2, then back to 12 to take it out?
