Default Power Train Problems

First let me say that I LOVED my truck; 2010 1500 4x4 white/black with color-keyed bumpers, nav., sunroof. She is beautiful and a girl's dream. However, 3 weeks ago while driving home with my three children the rear-end seized and dropped my drive shaft. In Texas at 3pm it get pretty hot, pretty quick, not the ideal time to be stranded (if there is a good time.) Found out later that a bolt came loose and locked up the rear-end which in turn broke the driveshaft, still unsure whether or not there is a transmission problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions. One report I read said it happened to a guy three times. I would much rather have my kids in something I can trust if this is a year model defect they haven't corrected yet. Oh and shes still on the rack. : (

Sorry for all the errors; my thoughts were coming faster than my fingers could type.

Appearantly this is a common problem with the 2010 year, which makes me nervous as well cause it hasn't happened to me yet. However most I have heard about have been one time events, I've been watching the posts about this problem and I haven't heard of any recurrences. Tell your repair shop to reassemble with locktite on the pinion nut treads and maybe peen the nut to keep it from coming loose again. Glad you and your kids are okay, hopefully you get it fixed right!

Finally, some national attention on this potentially fatal issue:

Right on! Another AutoBlog user up in dis B.

IF I had a 2010 RAM I would take in to the dealer and have them inspect the rear differential for loose bolts just to be on the safe side.
