I put on of those chips on my 3rd gen hemi. However I did not pay 80 bucks for it. I built my own for less then 5 bucks. It also did not get me anywhere near 60hp, but it increased the throttle response and I maybe got 1MPG on a good day. But I payed 5 bucks for it. For those who don't know what those chips are is an inline resistor. All its designed to do is change the resistance on the line to trick the computer to think its cooler outside. Changing the engine parameters. That's it. I went out, bought 3 dollars worth of resistors, spliced them in and wrapped them with tape. Less then 5 bucks and 10 minutes. I would never pay 80 bucks for that, but it appears as if some people do.

I also did the same thing with a transmission line booster. Spliced it in for less the 10 bucks. All that did was again trick the computer into thinking the line pressure was 60psi less then it was. Which in turn gave me 60 pounds more. Gave me a harder shift, faster shift and less ware on the tranny. This costs 70 bucks if you buy it from sonnex. However it does what it says it does, more worth the 70 bucks then the "GF chip"

What I don't understand is how companies like K&N, and GF etc can advertise HP numbers like they do. The only time that the chip is gonna get 60HP is in a modded out truck with perfect conditions. People who have dropped 20 grand into the motor would see that, never someone with a stock motor. It kinda grinds my gears...a lot...

Unfortunately (for me) i agree! I put a K&N CAI on my 2012ram 5.7. Truck was new but i honestly doubt if it makes any differance. It does ound bad but that may be all. I remember when I took the stock one out I thought, I dont see how this could be restricting air intake. Not bing a ise guy but I'll sell my K£N for 1/2 price, 2000miles on it.

Evey one wants more power, better mpg... And than I start to think, okay dodge, ford chevy, why don't they offer thease cai and tunners right from the factery to increase thier stock hp numbers, it really would be a quick simple fix.

Im not sure now that the meager gains you may or may not get from the after market really pay off, of course if your factery part fails, than I agree the after market has a better part.

For the new cost of a CAI for my 2500 hemi and a tunner I can buy a hell of lot of flue for my truck...

I did convert my truck to a true dual ex system (no y pipe) just after I bought my truck and Im positive that move helped my highway mileage but when alll is said and done, I still have to ask why factery built units are not equiped with performance parts?

I just dropped in a K&N filter in my 2012 1500 4.7L. I noticed an improvement of at least 2.5 mpg according to the computer just driving locally. Im assuming highway will be even more.

I wasted $550.00 for a Volant CAI on my unit, no hp or mpg gain, but when I hammer it does it ever roar,a lot of money spent just to hear your intake suck in air.

Make your own CAI and buy a K&N filter to go on it, very cheap to do. I got CAI and magnaflow and do notice a little more HP but nothing crazy. As far as mpg im seeing less then what i did stock....maybe because im a little harder on the pedal.
