Chronic Check Engine Light
2009 Ram 1500 Quad with 5.7L, 52,000 miles
About 2 weeks ago my CEL comes on. I take it to Autozone and they read the code as P0138, bank 1 sensor 2 high volt o2 sensor. Seems simple enough, so I go to the local dealership and buy a new OEM O2 sensors ($54). Installs in about 5 minutes, light goes out. Day two, light comes back on. Back to Autozone and this time it is P1139, bank 1 sensor 2 no closed ciruit.
So I go back to the dealer wondering if they sold me a bad sensor, parts guy recommends that I make an appt for a tech to look at. It takes the dealer 3 days to determine that they sold me a bad o2 sensor. This seems pretty unlikely to me, so I press them to diagnose further. But they are really confident that its the o2 sensor again. So they replace it again, and try to charge me $60 in labor to swap out the bad part that they sold me, in a process that takes literally 5 minutes. I pay the diag fee of $98 and refuse to pay their labor, ulimately after getting the service manager involved they agree.
Fast forward another 3 days and the CEL comes back on again. I haven't had the code pulled yet, but my guess is that P0138 is going to be the culprit, bad Bank 1 Sensor 2 o2 sensor.
There's no way in hell that three o2 sensors are bad unless somehting else is going on in the truck that's breaking them. I have zero faith in the dealership at this point, I'll fix this on my own (with a little help from DF of course). Truck runs fine, although while the CEL light is on I can tell a drop in mileage of about 2mpg.
So what's next? Is it a faulty catylitic converter? (also seems unlikely) Should I try a new PCM?

I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab with a 5.2L. Not only do I have a chronic challenge with my check engine light staying on, but at the same time my ABS and my break lights are on. Just as these lights came on, my transmission will no longer shift into overdrive. I have made several attemps to check for codes but have had all attemps show no codes at all. I am at a loss. My hope is that someone with a check engine light fix might be able to help me out. PLEASE ! ! !
