What Tires???
RC,
those factory GY-HP tires just plain suck....PERIOD. I didnt get 30,000 out of mine.
I switched my (QC sport) badyear HP tires to the bfgoodrich touring T/A (275/60/20)
BFG 60,000 mile warranty, the ride is outstanding, the handling is wayyyyyyy better now.
I nailed a set on sale for $129 bucks each, best improvement i`ve ever felt, to my truck to date.

I'd assume that tire searches via online would leave out sizes that would cause rubbing while turning. Since you and I have a 'similar' truck, I was curious if the beefy look would work on mine. It was an eligible option. Of course, I don't know if it takes height into consideration.
My only question that may or not be relevant is this: At what width would you begin to notice that your stearing is impacted? I'd assume that 305 would take a bit more distance to turn a 90 than what you have now. I do a lot of citi/highway driving so I'm not sure that I would be able to get used to it (being a new truck owner and all and that is if there is a significant impact, if any at all).
---
Also, since your 285/305 are both 50/20's, I think your profile will be the same. Just a matter of considering handling of the different widths.
I am a complete newb, btw. If I'm totally off then, I'm willing to be shown the way more perfectly.

Profile is slightly different because of the width. And i dont think it would handle to much different were only talking about a inch difference in width.
dont do either of those.. sumitomo is garbage... the cooper ht plus is okay...the size youll probably like that is beefy and a little bit more low profile is the 305/50/20. its wider and shorter than factory. the nitto 420s are bad ***, yokahama paradas are pretty good, and michelin makes a good one as well. but i think for looks and smooth ride and handling the nitto 420s are the cats ***!!
also those bfg long trail ta tour are garbage too... those wear okay and ride okay, but youll get the same mileage you did out of the goodyears..they come with a 60k warranty, but youll get half. in the factory size go with the bridgestone duller alenza or the michelin ltx ms2.... or for looks the cooper zeon ltz looks bad *** and rides like a highway tire and will get you 50k
I have the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor, they are nice tires but may be too aggressive looking for a lowered truck. I am thinking something like the Cooper HT Plus would do you well, and not break the bank.
Firestone has released a new Destination LE2 tire that looks nice as well for a street tire application. Not too pricey either.
