tire size 33" or ?
what is the tallest tire that will fit stock 17" rims on a 09 1500 4x4 i would like something as tall as a 33" tire but dont want to swap rims and dont want a 12.5 " wide tire thanks for any help..
I'm glad someone asked this question, I was too embarrassed to. I went to Discount Tire here in Colorado looking for new shoes for my 2010 1500 4x4 ST. The tire guy said the 285/65/20s would be too wide for my 17" wheels and the handling would me mushy. He recommended 18" wheels. Was he just trying to sell me new wheels, or is he right about the ride? I have the 17" chrome wheels now, and have no burning desire to replace them, but would like the bigger tires. The truck came with 245's

By the way, you cant put 20inch tires on 17inch wheels

Thanks LU. Discount was wanting to sell me 20" wheels and the 285 size tires, although the guy did suggest that the 285's would go on my existing wheels, but not satisfactorily. He recommended 285's in hancook, or 265's in Toyo. I'm inclined to save the cash and go with the 265's.
Wasn't trying to imply that a 20" tire would fit a 17" rim. Was just trying to point out that the stock size with the 20's is a 33" tire so 33's would fit his truck. Sorry for any confusion my lack of wording my have caused.
This is the extreme side, but I changed out my 20's on my 12 CC for American Racing ATX Artilleries 17 x 9 with a -12 offset, and I am running BFG 37 x12.50 x 17's, I had a minor rub on the drivers side, there was a raised section on the wheel well, little cut and repair of about 4 x 4 and no more rub, I am also running a Ready lift leveling kit, but thats it

As a matter of fact, ther are WAY more selections of tires for 17`s over the 20`s anyway.
If you start messin around with sizes, on factory wheels, you`ll head yourself right into one headache after another.
Bigger heavier wheels, bigger tires, aggressive treads, simply makes your trucks a gas pig in my opinion.
