Question for you. Was your 2010 one of the trucks recalled because the fill plug on the diff was too low? Although normally they just weld themselve up when there is lack of lube, makes me wonder if it was caused by an oil starved pinion bearing.

My 2009 1500 Crew 4x4 is in the shop right now....had a horrible howl in the rear end. I did not have any fluids leaking but the shop said the rear bearing in the diff was bad, gears all gone and they had chunks of metal coming out in the diff fluid.

I bought it used with 75K miles and it only had 3yr/36K drivetrain warranty so I am glad I bought the extended.

so this issue is more widespread than it seems. anyone have dealers fight repairing it under warranty for mods?

i only have a leveling kit on my truck with slightly larger tires. 275-65-20 vs 275-60-20

tuner/e-fan/vararam removed and all stock intake/fans put back in just in case they try to say "added power"

if you have warranty use it.make sure they replace all the bearings and not just the crown and pinion.yes even axle bearings.something moving aroung like that puts stress on all bearing and seals.any good tech will replace everything anyways to make sure its done right the first time..

My rearend has been droning for about a year now, 2009 4x4 5.7 with 3.92. Had the dealer look at it last year and they suspected a pinion bearing, but I'm the second owner so no warranty for me. Still drives fine but the noise is getting worse. I've got a local axle guy looking at it now. He also suspects pinion bearing and possibly some gears.

That is what went out in mine. I am a 2nd owner too but I had bought the extended warranty. They ended up replacing the whole rear end with a used one with 25K miles on it. Hope this one holds up OK.
