Default Running Board Mount Issues

Has anyone encountered issues with factory hardware breaking and pulling through the mount locations on the rocker panel on an 09 ram QC Laramie? We actually had to remove the passenger side running board because it was so bad. I have new running boards to install but will have to sure up those mounting locations to ensure that they don't pull through again. The factory mount locations just don't seem truely sturdy enough for my liking.

Yup... Happened to me with my Mopar SS 5in Running Boards...
I had to remove the Driver's side Running Board after the rear and center mounts started tearing through the metal around the mounting holes, causing the Running Board to "vibrate" while driving freeway speeds.

I'm still looking for a solution...
(And hating having to roll down the road with only the Passenger-side Running Board...)

I was thinking of bringing it to my body shop and having them fab up some reinforcement backers for both sides. If the passenger side blew out I can only assume that the driver side is not long for it either. These steps are rated for 350-375lbs but the sheet metal rockers certainly aren't!

My passenger side ripped off the truck when I got too close to a frozen snow pile. I put it back on using rivet-nuts from Mcmaster Carr after I straightened the sheetmetal out.

These are what I used:

I got aftermarket tube steps (raptor 4") based on recommendations on this forum and I'm pretty happy with the way they attach. They have backing plates and are attached at two points at each mount point. Maybe worth getting something like that because it doesn't seem to me that reinforcing the already destroyed sheet metal will help much. These still do attach through the sheet metal, though. I'd be much happier with something that mounts to the frame but *shrug* what can I do?

OEM side steps suck, they flex when I step on them so I just avoid them and I weight 185 lbs. I wouldn't have them, but my wife and mom sure like them. They also make it hard to slide under the truck for the oil change.

I posted about them peeling and then people chimed in about the attachment issue in this thread....

Default Running Boards

The original boards on my 09 Ram got riped off doing some mountain climbing, riping about half of the set in nuts out.I got new 4in. black oval bars from Truckchamp.com. Had to knock out the remaining set in nuts in order to use their mounting system. Two bolts attached to a flat bar that uses the original holes.Had to hammer the pulled out spots flat but everything worked out very well.

I have had the same issue and found a solution I used heavier rivet nuts that have wings in the back to spread the load and used the Mopar Reinforcement Kit that no one seems to know anything about and that was about 2 years ago and no issues since I have a ton of information on it and have shared it with other members I will be happy to send to anyone that would like just send me a PM and I will also try and find my older posts.

Here is the orignal post. I have other info if needed as well. The little reinforcement kit made a huge difference.
