Default Exhaust

Alright this might be a dumb question but here it goes cause I am curious.
I am looking at getting a Flowmaster 40 series muffler for my 2011 Ram 1500 ST. It has the 5.7 Hemi and stock single pipe exhaust right now.
I was wondering if the piping from the muffler back to the tail pipe causes much restriction. Because I was thinking of having the shop cut out the old muffler, put in the 40 series and just take out all the piping from the muffler back and have the exhaust dump to the ground from the muffler right under the cab. Would it even matter as far as restriction goes? Is there anything illegal about doing that? Do you have any recommendations other than the 40 series? I have heard it actually drops HP, but I love the way it sounds. Looking forward to yall's opinions.

To comment on legality, people need to know where your at.

I have no clue about if it'd mess up the HP with too little restriction, so sorry I can't help with that.

As for legal, it depends where you are. Technically no it won't be illegal from an emissions standpoint since you've kept the stock headers, cat, and have a muffler. However, noise level might be where they get you if you either through local law enforcement or state inspections. I've heard some states have started testing for noise level.

I ran my last truck like that and loved it! Was an 03 1500 5.7 ran really strong I had edlebrock headers intake and magnaflow muffler. I think if anything it would flow better considering it has less restriction because of the shorter distance it has to travel to exit. At least one would think.

Tailpipes aren't going to give you any noticeable power difference, and having them in not only moves the sound to the rear more but also greatly reduces exhaust from gathering under the vehicle and working it's way into the cabin.

I've been told in the past (by local PD) that the exhaust has to exit from under the body (can't dump pre-axle), but I don't know the laws on that from state to state, or if they're enforced.

Alright that is a good point. Maybe I'll just get the full system.
