Mine was a 10/08 build and had the seal go around 30k, was fixed, no problems since (knock on wood), further failure would probably depend on when it was caught due to how much fluid was lost, I found mine early when doing the diff service, truck in now for another round of exhaust bolts, they said tierod not bad just normal wear as to why toe out on alignment and noise I am hearing is the sway bar hitting a wheel wt. on outside of rim (I don't know if it passes the stink test, gonna check it), initially want $140 for static balance, having him verify static versus road force, static is old school and shouldnt cost that much.

To DodgeCares - hey buddy, if you're out there... Chris B : Top Care Specialist : Chrysler Group LLC

What do people like myself do - my build date is 10/08 - if their trucks aren't covered under the recall? It's a ticking timebomb knowing that others who aren't covered under recall have had, not only gear whine, but actual catastrohpic failure AND reported to NHTSA about it.
Unless the recall broadens - are folks like me stuck footing the bill for this "preventive maintenance"?

Official recall notice - http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls...intVersion=YES

Dave,

If you have this procedure done and the recall broadens to include your vehicle then you would be reimbursed by the corporation. If you are not included in the recall and feel you should be covered for this issue, then I would suggest contacting the Chrysler Customer Assistance Center at one of the numbers below, to see if they would pay for this procedure up front. I do not have an answer at this time if the recall will expand or not, and according to the NHTSA website, the investigation is still open.

Can anyone explain what changed in the rear end as far as design or parts that has some 1500 in the recall and some not?

Mine is one of the early 09 build. Without going outside and looking at the plate I think mine falls within the time frame.

Heard on the news that it may be Nov before Dodge contacts the owners.

----------
edit. I remembered mine was built in october, turns out it was 08 rather than 09. So mine does not meet the timeframe.
They have not even loaded the Vins into the system yet. Chrysler has not released the official document to even verify the dates yet. As soon as I get a copy of it I will post it. Then if your vehicle does not meet the criteria, you want to check if you are included, or schedule an appointment with your dealer you will have much better results getting accurate information.

From what I've gathered reading and asking questions awhile back, Ram division utilized two different manufactures regarding the rearend assembly, early model '09 and a second manufacture for late '09-current. I'm not sure as to what the cutoff date was, or if this even affects the pinion nut situation.

It seems, based off incidents reported that early models are not fairing to well either. To recall 230,000+ units would probably be quite costly to Chrysler, so I'm assuming they're trying to narrow it down to certain dates in hopes of saving any unnecessary expenses. I just hope if the pinion nut failure happens to me my wife and kids are not aboard/present.

I'd personally like to know the cutoff date as well between the manufactures, even though incidents have occured before and after my build date, yet my model seems to be excluded too.

THANK YOU CHRIS (DodgeCares) FOR YOUR EFFORTS IN KEEPING THIS SITUATION UPDATED FOR US, GREATLY APPRECIATED!

x2 to DodgeCares it is nice we have an expert. I think DodgeCares is right that they have not loaded the vin's yet, I went to MOPAR and entered mine but no results. My build date is 10/09 so I think I am one of the recalled. Buy a stroke of luck I went to my dealer today for an oil change/tire rotation and the service advisor out of the blue mentioned to me they know about the recall he thinks my truck is affected & they will be getting parts. I thought it was nice they mentioned it, I was not going to say anything until I recieved confirmation. I have a great dealer, respected in the community.

Well, they most likely decided to fix this with a Court Order issued by the NHTA....

prob not enough data to include your years, not until more accidents happen or they step up on their own.
