Default Noise coming from dash. Vent Motor maybe?

Looking for some help from you guys. I recetly moved from coastal NC, to he sierra nevadas in CA. I never really used my heater much, but now its running all the time. It just started making a knockin noise yesterday. I sounds like the vent motorthat switches from floorto dash to windshield. It does it for a goo wile and usually after fidding with it for a bit, it will finally stop. Anybody here experience that? or possibly kow how to fix that? Any help is greatly appreciated.

For those out of warranty and like to fix your own things, here is a quick guide for that clicking noise.

Chances are it is only the motor that is bad if it is clicking or thumping.
Not very hard to fix really. I think most of these cases are the motor gears stripping and not the doors themselves.

If you know how to take the center stack bezel around the radio off you are halfway there. Don't forget about the screw over the 115V out let. Take the bezel off then the two side 12V acc. plugs. Remove the ring bezel around the cup holder if equipped.

Remove the cup holder assembly if you have one.

The culprit is the lower center motor, unplug remove two screws and remove

If the gears are stripped you can position the big gear 180 out from the smaller gear. The door only travels about 120 degrees so won't hit the stripped part.

Reassemble and you should be good to go. 1 to 2 hours of your time. If you want to get a new motor it is about $40 from Chrysler.

Hopefully this is the extent of your problem.

Also, welcome to the Sierra's. Hope you brought your snow removal equipment from NC, you will need it.

LVRR,
Great link, I will check with the dealer on warranty on ongoing recall issues. If no warranty, I can do this myself with no problem. Thanks again.

Oops...finally back. For those of you with problems with your heater/AC motors. Well good luck. It is a on going problem for those on the 4th Gen Rams. (owners) Yes there is a recall. But be aware that the motors is not the problem. They do what they are told to do. Is a software problem. Unless you can find a dealer that has a master mechanic certified by ASE an Dodge that understand the system an now how the system function it will never be repaired. The recall states replaces and reprogram. The problem is that when you take the truck under warranty they replace an not reprogram because one or there is no one in the dealer that can reprogram. So they replace it (the motor) an in a year or so you will have the same problem. The gears break because the system doesn't stop the vent door motor, period. This is a system that is to new for the supposed mechanics in the dealership. Remember the late 70,s when computers found there way to the automotive industries. When fuel injection came out they weren't problematic. The automotive industry dint train there mechanics. Here is the same. If the system is setup properly it would work wonder full.
Believe me. I'm on my 4th motor 2 by dealers an 2 by me. An is only the bottom one. Now ..no no you can not disconnect an run with out. You will loose the AC an all heater an defrost. An if you have automatic headlights you will loose that to.
Now ask me? Do I love my Ram? YES. Would I keep it? NO. Why? Read the above.
Just my 20.00 bucks
By the way on a on going battle with Dodge to try to get it fix. An waiting for parts for the lattest recall. Differential

Sounds like you need a new dealer. The original RRT was for the software upgrade and parts only had to be replaced if they had already broken. I had mine done right after the RRT and have never had an issue with it.

A software update goes along with it. It's right in the recall plain as day. Not sure what that whole rambling was about. Maybe your dealer is one of those with 2 or 3 people working there. Although, I thought they got rid of those. Apparently not.

Default Reprogram

Well true, TnTech the problem that this truck has been to 2 different dealers an they havent been able to fix it. Like my posting says. But now due to me been out of the state cause of my job an not having who can keep up with it an the amount of time that has pass...is Dodge going to fix it. an if they due they are going to come back an say it doesn work cause your tie-rod when tru the floor an it affected the motor control and is going to cost you exumerant amount of monies to fix it lol So going thru the third dealer here in Pensacola an will see what he says. (I do now is a program issue) I disconected (unscrewed the motor from its mount an now there is nothing ac/heat.)
