Upgrading head unit...need uconnect modules too?
I just picked up a great 2012 bighorn, quad cab.
Base radio, the 130res, I've searched all over and think i've figured out that i need too much factory stuff to make it work. But just to confirm...
I don't have uconnect and i want bluetooth.
#1 ....as i understand I would have to add the uconnect module (with external links or get a different 130 headunit) and get a reflash?
or
#2 ...if i bought a 430 non nav uconnect enabled, i would still need the module, mic, and relfash, more than simply the enabled head unit?
if this is indeed the case i'm just going to go aftermarket i guess....
too expensive for all these units.
Not sure why a 40k truck doesn't have bluetooth built in for 2012....
thanks for input.

You are correct.

So leave the phone alone and drive. Unfortunately people driving hands free while yacking on the phone, don't drive much better than if they are holding it.
I agree with the drive and leave the phone alone, However....A lot of us out here use the truck in our business and phone calls are important to take even if we are in the truck. I try to pull over or stop if I can. Not always possible though. That said I just got a 2012 Subaru Imprezza. Less than 20K and it has Bluetooth. Terrible terrible radio but the hands free works great. No reason Dodge should not have Bluetooth in every radio seeing as many states are hands free only now. The "You get what you pay for" is not always true. At least not in this case.

It is just funny to me for a few reasons.
It is a 40K TRUCK - you're paying for a truck not a bunch of features you find in a Prius. For the few people who actually want the uconnect - it can be easily added.

I certainly understand the comment about the cabin filter, since that is not something that can be ordered. Not sure I understand the comments about the Bluetooth. Why does this truck not have hands free capability? Because they ordered it that way. Why was the truck ordered that way? Perhaps someone ordered a vehicle for their business and didn't want their employee using the phone while driving, and the business owner wound up not purchasing this vehicle. We have many people who are constantly in and out of the vehicle and they need a mobile bluetooth unit so why pay extra for something they don't want?
When you say that all vehicles should come with or without an option is the same as saying Chrysler should offer less choices. Who wants that? I can tell you that for everyone who says why does not every vehicle have a feature, there is someone else who will never use it and does not want to pay any extra for it.

I bought my $42,000.00 truck off the lot so it was NOT ordered that way. At least by me. It came that way as far as I am concerned. I didn't want to buy a Laramie as I couldn't afford it at the time. Plus why should I pay an extra grand to have a convenience that in today's day and age should be included. Heck they should have an option for better headlights for that matter.
Maybe there are few people that WANT a uconnect, I don't know, but I do know there are people that live in a State that NEED a uconnect or feature like it. I like my truck. It is why I bought it. So not having the uconnect was not a deal breaker.
