It's not an "internal" engine sound or a tick...it's more of a rattling sound noticeable at idle and low speed. Almost sounds like a loose heat shield.

I've seen a few posts about broken exhaust manifold bolts and I searched that, and maybe that's the problem but not sure. Just looking for ideas or suggestions of "common" issues that might cause this...before I get under truck and explore further. Appreciate any suggestions.

BullyT,

Any updates on your concerns? Have you checked to see if there were any outstanding recalls on your vehicle.

You can check by visiting:
www.chrysler.ca
Select “Vehicle Brand”
Select “Owners” in the upper right hand corner
Select “Vehicle Recall Inquiry”
Select a brand and “View …Recall Notices”
Select “Get Recall Information”
Enter last 8 characters of the vehicle identification number (VIN) in the
space provide and Select “GO”.
It will list the vehicle with the complete VIN, a verbal description of the vehicle and recall, if any apply.

I hope this helps, PM me if you have any questions.

I just submitted a new post. Dealer diagnosed issue this morning as collapsed lifters in cylinders 3 and 5. No explanation of how this could have occurred. They recommended replacing all 16 lifters. Price quoted is $1,962.00 plus tax. Powertrain warranty is 100,000 km and I'm at 111,000 km. I told dealer not to do the work. I'm sending you a PM

I'm assuming this is a Canadian truck... Does the '09 lifetime powertrain warranty not apply to Canadian sales?

No lifetime powertrain warranty on Canadian trucks. 100,000 km (approx. 62,000 miles). We pay more for vehicles in Canada, and at least as far as Dodge Ram we get less warranty protection. Go figure.
