Default Can the bumper really tow 5000lbs?

I just picked up a 2013 today. I don't tow often but when I do it's a 1500lb trailer with a 3200 lb Jeep on it. My question is can I really just put a ball on the bumper that states 5000 lb limit right on it? It looks to have a hitch mount attached to the bumper not just cheap brackets. I know there is the little receivers that attach to that tube, but I randomly have to tow the Jeep tomorrow. Any help ASAP would be advised. Thanks

If not what is the hitch route to go. This a strange set up here....

Those numbers are usually pretty accurate however it probably says 500 lb tongue weight which depending on how you load it might be a problem. Also you seem to be very close to the maximum so if you have any additional weight in the jeep or on the trailer you might be exceeding the max weight for the bumper. Good luck.

I'm not sure about towing from the bumper, but if you decide to get a hitch, Reese has some really nice stuff.

Anything and everything you need to get towing.

Pentastar,

Check out the link I posted, you can look up your vehicle specs and it will provide the recommended Max. Trailer Weight and some other great towing information.

Congratulations on your new Ram and welcome to the Dodge Forum!

You could tow from there, but what kind of trailer do you have that you could actually hitch it that high? Even with my stock height 2wd I am using a 3" drop in the receiver for my car trailer. Using the bumper ball would be nearly a foot higher.

I'd just get the receiver hitch and put in. 3 bolts. Stupid easy to install.

Or get the real class 4 receiver hitch instead of that 3 bolt class 3 stub thing
