I don't know how it is exactly there in the states, but here if we are not liable for the damage our rates don't go up.

If we get rear ended, we still exchange all information and notify insurance. However they work it out as to who's fault it is according to the police record. Then whoever is at fault, their insurance will cover ALL damages.

If we hit a deer, our rates still do not go up. Its "the animals fault" in most cases there.
I also know that it works the same with theft and fire. Our rates will not go up then either because we did not cause it. HOWEVER if the insurance company finds out the vehicle was not locked and there was theft...well thats a different story...

Basically only at fault accidents or issues will cause rates to increase.

Having said all that, I would do as other people have stated around here. Go through your insurance company, that's what you pay them the big bucks for. Besides they will go to the dealer and get what information they can out of them anyways. Most likely because the theft was caused on their site in their care, it will fall back on them.
Then they have a choice, either pay the repairs, or let their insurance handle it.

Sometimes it all depends on the situation too. When I picked up my new truck a month ago, I took it from the lot without a cat converter. I picked out the one I wanted, signed the paperwork, the it went into detailing for the night. Picked it up the next day, noticed it was loud but didn't really think about looking under the truck. Then I get a DPF filter full message, now I had to look under. Then I noticed the whole cat was GONE. Called the dealer up and apparently they had 7 trucks with cat converters stolen right off their lot that night. Now that to them is an insurance deal, no way is buying 7 cats cheaper then paying off the insurance.

So I guess it depends on if their was any other theft on the lot...or if it was just yours. OF course the dealer is gonna try and save what money they can.
