Default Tailgate lock question

Hello group I have a 2009 Ram 1500 with a non locking tailgate I would like to know if they make a kit to make it a remote locking tailgate I found one kit but it was only good for the tailgates with factory manual lock

I also found a thread on changing it over to a manual locking tail gate ordered all the part numbers listed but that was a bust and im stuck with a bunch of crap I cant use! being my truck is an early production it wasn't offered with the locking tailgate? So when my Vin is put in all the part numbers change
FactoryMopar was no help and will not take the parts back

any help would be awesome!

Kevin,

Mopar does have an electronic tailgate lock, part# 82211668AB, however, in order to install it the vehicle needs to be equipped with remote keyless entry and a manual locking tailgate, as you advised. I apologize if this is an inconvenience and for any frustrations it may have caused.

What parts did you order? When I installed a backup camera on my 09 with locking handle, I ended up selling the original locking handle and new lock to a guy on here that used the info in the thread and installed the lock on his tailgate. His was also an early 09 like yours.

He had bought the new rods and the part that rotates and engages with the lock. Used my handle with the new lock cylinder. That's pretty much all there is. The vibration dampening foam on the rods transfers over to the new rods.

In case you are wondering when you install the factory backup camera, the kit comes with a new handle that has the camera hole and a new lock. The lock is unkeyed so if you find someone that upgraded to the camera, the original handle coupled with the new unkeyed lock is the largest part of what is needed to upgrade the tailgate. The original lock is easily transferred to the new handle with 2 screws when installing the camera handle.

I'm not sure what to say about your lock cylinder. The lever on the end that triggers the control unit is riveted on and doesn't come off. Should be a complete assembly.

You should have ordered:

Part 1 - Handle - Part #68044904-AB
Part 2 - Control Unit - Part #68044867-AB
Part 3 - Link - Part #68049240-AA (need 2)

The Handle should of came with the lock already installed. Even the Camera kit has the lock installed in the handle. Did they change something? In both cases, it came unkeyed so you had to follow the proper proceedure to make it set to your existing key.

Dyno Lock. I put one on my 2010 Laramie. You need a remote or you can use a 2 way toggle switch. The only thing with mine is you cannot lock the tailgate with the key as the Dyno Lock is a seperate bolt latch. If you want the extra security when parked of a long time you can I guess lock with both key and remote. And it just fit with the camera in place. Took about 1 hr to install.
